Eddie Jordan claims one Formula 1 driver is simply in the wrong team right now

Eddie Jordan has said that Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton is driving for the wrong team in Formula 1 right now.

Jordan was on TalkSPORT reviewing a rather uneventful Spanish Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen extended his lead at the top of the Drivers’ Championship with another effortless win.

His nearest rival Sergio Perez fought his way through the grid to finish fourth but still lost plenty of ground on his teammate.

They were separated by the two Mercedes cars that recorded their best result of the season.

Lewis Hamilton finished ahead of George Russell who had a brilliant race after missing out on the top ten in qualifying.

Despite the improvement shown in Mercedes’s car, Jordan still believes Hamilton needs to leave the team.

The legendary British driver is chasing his eighth world title.

He won’t be winning it this season and realistically he’s running out of time to achieve his goal.

Hamilton’s been linked with a move to Ferrari, although he’s set to hold talks with Mercedes today over his future.

Jordan urges Hamilton to leave Mercedes

Asked about Hamilton’s chance of winning that desired next title, Jordan said: “I’ve said it from day one, it’s simple. Everyone has their own balance in their mind, when you get overly comfortable in your position, I think you lose a touch of that lustre.

“That killer instinct and determination, that fight to win and to win his eighth title.

“I think he needs to leave, I’ve said that to him. Lewis, find your mojo again, just come out of there, go somewhere, whether it’s Ferrari, whether it’s Aston Martin, wherever it is.

“I do not think Mercedes is the right team for him.”

As Jordan alludes to, there aren’t too many options outside of Mercedes for Hamilton to consider.

Aside from Red Bull, no team is currently close to competing with them at the front of the grid.

If he were to jump ship next season, unless a space opens up at Red Bull, he’s still unlikely to be competing regularly for race wins.

The rule changes coming in 2026 present Hamilton with his best chance.

Gambling on which team might have the best car when that rolls around could prove to be incredibly difficult.
