Charles Leclerc told why he should leave Ferrari for rival F1 team after Las Vegas GP

Charles Leclerc has had to endure another frustrating campaign with Ferrari, which has led to speculation about his future in Formula 1.

Ferrari have only scored 22 points across the last two race weekends, seriously reducing their chances of finishing second in the constructors’ championship.

It highlights how disappointing 2025 has been for Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, who look set to go through an entire season without winning a Grand Prix.

Nicolas Todt on Charles Leclerc’s future

“He’s not a baby anymore because he has done a lot of seasons with Ferrari and of course, I think that we still need to have a winning car… We hope next year Ferrari will have a very good car.”

This led to some outspoken remarks from Ferrari president John Elkann, although Ralf Schumacher thinks Elkann’s comments relate to Leclerc’s future.

The Monegasque driver is one of the most highly-rated drivers on the grid, and Leclerc’s manager has held meetings with Aston Martin over a potential move in the future.

However, racing driver and BBC Sport pundit Alice Powell would love to see Leclerc line up alongside Max Verstappen at Red Bull if he needs a more competitive car.

Alice Powell would love to see Charles Leclerc in the ‘second Red Bull seat’

Powell and commentator Harry Benjamin were reflecting on the Las Vegas Grand Prix on the Chequered Flag podcast.

After Leclerc finished fourth following McLaren’s double disqualification, Benjamin said: “It’s the same messaging time and time again out of Ferrari.

“You’ve just got to look on the other side of the garage with the Golden Boy, Charles Leclerc, who’s been having a great season.

“But he must be getting pretty sick and tired of not being able to challenge for a world title.”

Powell interrupted Benjamin and said: “Stick him in the second Red Bull seat!”

Benjamin continued: “Something’s not right at the moment, and only they know really what’s going on.

“But if it is as dire as it is, they’ve got to make big sweeping changes.”

Charles Leclerc admits he’s ‘not satisfied’ after barely missing out on Las Vegas Grand Prix podium

Leclerc initially crossed the finish line in sixth place at the Las Vegas Grand Prix after a frustrating second half of the race stuck behind Kimi Antonelli and Oscar Piastri.

The Mercedes driver received a five-second time penalty for a false start, but Antonelli impressed fans and Verstappen by holding off the drivers behind him.

Ferrari’s Monegasque driver ended up missing out on what turned out to be a podium by 0.190 seconds, one of the smallest margins in recent F1 history.

Reflecting on his performance in his official post-race media session, Leclerc said: “Mixed feelings on my side. I am not satisfied finishing P6 [P4], but if I look back at my race, I didn’t leave anything on the table.

Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari future

“I had some good battles and took the right risks, so on a personal note, I am satisfied with my performance today.

“The first stint was entertaining with good overtakes, working my way forward, but after our stop, it became more difficult.

“Our straight-line speed was not the strongest, so it was difficult to fight with our competitors. I made up for it a bit with how I was braking, but with Oscar [Piastri] in Kimi’s [Antonelli] DRS, it was difficult to catch them to try and gain more places.

“We have two more races to go, and we want to close the season on a high, bringing home a win for everyone in our team. I will give it everything.”

Leclerc would be the most competitive teammate Verstappen has ever had at Red Bull should they decide to make a move for the 28-year-old.

Red Bull have been linked with Leclerc, but more likely as a replacement for Verstappen if he decides to leave, rather than as his teammate.

However, if Laurent Mekies wants to take the constructors’ championship seriously, then a combination of Verstappen and Leclerc would be very tough to beat.
