Red Bull looks set to consider the future of Sergio Perez after another disappointing performance at the Belgian Grand Prix.

After starting the race from the front row of the grid, Perez was overtaken almost immediately by Lewis Hamilton in the opening stages.

Perez then suffered from poor pace throughout the race, blaming much of it on the balance of his Red Bull and high tyre degradation. He eventually finished the race in eighth place, six positions down on where he started.

The Mexican drew criticism from Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko who said Perez “completely collapsed” during the race, while 1996 F1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve said he was left “extremely disappointed” with his result.

Amid questions over his future, former F1 strategist Bernie Collins believes Red Bull must factor in an important point if they do decide to replace him after the summer break.

Bernie Collins highlights factor for Red Bull when replacing Sergio Perez

Red Bull looks set to discuss how they proceed with Perez following a spate of poor results, but it will be a difficult conversation.

The team has a couple of drivers in its roster they could put into the seat, including Liam Lawson or Daniel Ricciardo. However, team principal Christian Horner and Marko disagree on who should replace Perez.

When discussing the future of the Mexican on Sky Sports F1, Collins gave her verdict on whether he has done enough to keep his seat and highlights an important point they must consider.

“When they look at the pace compared between Checo and Verstappen just based on the race, probably not,” said Collins.

“It depends on who they are lining up for the second seat and whether they think that person would have done a better job rather than the direct comparison to Verstappen.”

Red Bull faces difficult task to replace Sergio Perez

The one driver who is unlikely to see any form of promotion is Yuki Tsunoda, who was ruled out by Red Bull from their current senior roster.

Although both Daniel Ricciardo and Liam Lawson are capable drivers, the former has so far led an unspectacular season at RB having been outscored by Tsunoda in the last few races.

Lawson also had a test with Red Bull after the British Grand Prix, but that reportedly left Red Bull engineers unimpressed.

There is set to be a lot of focus on the Milton Keynes outfit in the next couple of days to see what decision they arrive at for the remainder of the season.
