Lando Norris escaped virtually unscathed from an opening lap clash with McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri at the Singapore Grand Prix.
The two made contact just a few corners into the race, as they fought for the same piece of tarmac. McLaren fans will have been on edge as the two bumped into each other, leaving Norris with front wing damage for the remainder of the race.
Piastri campaigned for his team to take action over the radio, feeling that such heavy contact from a colleague was unnecessary. Unfortunately, nothing was changed, and the Singapore Grand Prix concluded with the Aussie off the podium for the fourth time this season.
Norris addressed the Piastri incident immediately and felt that the wet conditions at the start of the race may have played a role in how things panned out. McLaren fans told Piastri to ‘stop crying’ and felt as though his reaction to the incident had been too strong.

Anthony Davidson thinks Lando Norris deserved a reprimand for Oscar Piastri clash in Singapore
The F1 paddock are concerned about Piastri and feel as though the intensity of his first title battle may be getting to him as the year goes on. With six races to go and a 22-point lead, a win would be massive in the context of his hopes.
Even Jenson Button noticed a worrying change in Piastri and can see that it’s taking a toll on him. His team will review the footage of his opening lap clash, and as far as support goes, Sky Sports F1’s Anthony Davidson believes that Norris at least deserved a reprimand for his part in the incident.
“So, on the exit of turn one, I’m now watching Piastri, and it’s that moment there, where he’s looking in the left mirror, and from this point, Lando is lining him up,” he said. “He’s already starting to think about turning right, there we go.
“He’s turning right to take himself on the same trajectory through that corner. As Oscar starts to drift out wide, because he knows, he’s already had the look, and he’s drifting out wide because he knows his teammate is there.
“Look where Verstappen is, that’s the racing line, but we’re drifting out here. So, we’re trying to compromise the teammate on the inside,” Davidson continued.
“I’m surprised Lando didn’t come away with a reprimand, with a black and white flag at least. But maybe the fact that they’re teammates and the team will take care of it themselves, internally, maybe that’s the reason. It shouldn’t be, but maybe that’s how the stewards looked at this particular one.”

Why Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri’s F1 title battle might have just changed
With the constructors’ championship now sealed, McLaren might find themselves with a top job containing their drivers on track.
With everything to do with the team secure, they are now fighting for themselves and their own dreams. The gloves are off, in essence.
Red Bull have put pressure on Piastri by insisting that they will bring further upgrades if mistakes are made, and it begins to look like Max Verstappen has a shot at winning once more.
It means that a repeat of his messy first lap antics from the first few races could blow things wide open. He crashed in Baku, and a repeat of that could be a disaster in the context of the title race.
