Despite recent results being affected by the development of their 2026 car, Williams are currently in the midst of enjoying their best F1 season since 2016.
The British constructor welcomed Sainz into the ranks ahead of the 2025 season, following Ferrari’s acquisition of Lewis Hamilton’s talents from Mercedes.
Sainz brought Ferrari ‘secrets’ with him along to Williams in hopes of being able to utilise them and raise the team from their ninth-place finish in the 2024 constructors’ standings.
The team currently find themselves in fifth place in the current constructors’ standings after 16 rounds raced. A solid end to the season could cement their standing and give them their first top-half finish in the standings since 2017.

Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz do not hide ‘anything’ from each other in Williams debriefs
Speaking on a recent episode of P1 with Matt and Tommy, Albon was asked about how his relationship with Sainz has developed since the arrival of the Spaniard at the Grove-based constructor at the start of the season.
Sainz previously touched upon his dynamic with Albon, stating that his partnership with the Thai driver is the most ‘honest teammate pairing that he’s had in his career.
Albon echoed these sentiments, replying to the question with, “I would like to say we must be the most open teammate pairing on the grid in terms of debriefs. We’re not hiding anything. Which is great because we’re looking to be a top team.
“We’re not here to finish, as great as fifth, sixth and seventh have been, we want to be up there and be able to say, ‘No, we’re disappointed with a P5 or P6.'”
“So the more we can give back to the team and open up, or speed up the development process, we will, because actually we’ve both signed relatively long contracts. We don’t want to wait.”
Sainz previously stated that he misses fighting for podiums at Ferrari, in a testament to how determined he is to get Williams back to their glory days of the late 1980s/early 1990s.
Alex Albon has received ‘vindication’ after beating Carlos Sainz at Williams in 2025
Albon has been responsible for 81% of Williams’ points so far in the 2025 campaign, racking up 70 points against Sainz, who has only managed to bring home 16 points in his debut season with the team.
The Thai driver was also asked how it feels to deliver against such a strong teammate, as opposed to the rookies who formerly filled the second seat at the team.
After being asked if there’s a sense of satisfaction in it, Albon replied, “Maybe vindication. I find that I’ve always been performing well, especially since I returned to F1 after the Red Bull stint.

“I have been getting better and better every year. I’ve been improving myself on track, off track, whatever you want to say. But it’s great to have someone who has a proven track record. It helps me, I’m not going to lie about that.
“It’s good for me as well. I actually wanted it. I wanted to see how I am against, after all these years, after Max [Verstappen], can I cut it against the top drivers, and hopefully I can.”
Despite the difficult season for the Spaniard, Sainz is ‘very happy’ at Williams and has committed to seeing out his contract with the team that was signed during the summer break of the 2024 season.
