Williams have now scored more points in the 2025 F1 season alone than they earned from 2018 to 2024 combined after Alex Albon’s P7 in the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
The Grove squad now sit somewhat more comfortably with fifth place on 86 points in the F1 constructors’ championship after the first 16 of this term’s 24 rounds. Aston Martin are their nearest rival, but the Silverstone outfit failed to secure any points at Monza to remain on 62.
Albon has scored 70 of his team’s 86 points so far, with Carlos Sainz only taking 16 since he joined Williams from Ferrari in 2025. The London-born Thai has also now passed Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli on 66 points for seventh in the drivers’ standings, while Sainz is 18th.
Only McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, Mercedes’ George Russell and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton have outscored Albon this season. But Sainz has only outscored Yuki Tsunoda, Franco Colapinto and Jack Doohan yet.

Alex Albon begs Williams to ‘urgently’ fix their Pirelli tyre temperatures issue in qualifying
Albon’s P7 in the Italian GP also means the 2025 F1 season has now yielded more points for Williams than the 84 that the Grove crew scored from 2018 to 2024 combined. It is also the most points the team have scored since taking 83 in 2017 for fifth in the constructors’ table.

But Albon left Monza feeling frustrated that Williams had yet another problematic session in qualifying for the Italian GP last Saturday, having failed for the third race in a row to get their Pirelli tyres in the correct operating window to maximise the performance from the rubber.
Albon said, via Motorsport-Total: “It’s been three races in a row now where qualifying hasn’t gone well. Each time, it’s been due to tyre temperatures. It’s almost getting worse, so we need to resolve this urgently.”
Williams must wonder what more might be possible with stronger qualifying results
Although Albon finished the Italian GP in P7 for six points, the 29-year-old only qualified P14 and Sainz only sealed P13 as both Williams drivers bowed out in Q2 at Monza. Williams saw Albon and Sainz qualify P20 and P13 for the Hungarian GP plus P15 and P9 for the Dutch GP.
Sainz’s contact with Oliver Bearman derailed his Italian GP, as the 31-year-old had to accept only a P11 finish at Monza. The four-time Grand Prix winner missed out on securing a point by just 0.578 seconds to Racing Bulls driver Isack Hadjar, who started from Monza’s pit lane.
Williams must wonder what more might have been possible with stronger qualifying results in the last few rounds. Albon was furious after qualifying at Zandvoort, having felt his Pirelli tyres were not up to temperature after compromising his out lap owing to running in traffic.
