The Formula 1 summer break is coming to an end but the chat behind the scenes within the sport hasn’t stopped just because the action on track did.

At the beginning of the break, Red Bull confirmed Sergio Perez was staying with the team and Williams announced the signing of Carlos Sainz for 2025.

Perez isn’t guaranteed to be on the grid until the end of the season, but the team backed their driver for now despite his worrying form.

However, one of the most desired personnel yet to be signed for next season is designer Adrian Newey.

When Newey announced he would be leaving Red Bull next year, nearly every team on the grid were immediately linked with signing him.

Both Ferrari and Aston Martin have been considered his next destination at some point, however, a report from F1 Insider suggests another manufacturer has entered the race.

Alpine are said to have made a ‘huge offer’ to sign Newey to help their struggling Formula 1 program.

The French team have only scored 11 points this season and haven’t completed their driver line-up for next season yet.

Pierre Gasly has shown his faith in the team despite their poor performance this year and the arrival of Newey would be a huge boost to the team’s prospects.

It would also dismiss reports that Alpine could be up for sale if they hire someone of Newey’s calibre.

Adrian Newey now ‘considering’ offer to join Alpine

The report from Formula 1 Insider suggests that Renault CEO Luca de Meo and advisor Flavio Briatore have already been in contact with Newey and ‘promised him the moon’.

They believe this offer also makes it clear that Briatore is ‘serious’ about Alpine’s F1 project going forward.

Newey has been guaranteed ‘freedom’ to make the decisions he chooses in all areas, something that reportedly ‘flatters’ the 65-year-old and has forced him into ‘considering’ the offer.

Newey has had plenty of success working with Renault before, with the partnership culminating in 15 Constructors’ and Drivers’ Championships in the past.

The likes of Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill and Sebastian Vettel have all benefitted from their work together.

The £700m-valued F1 team, as per RacingNews365, could have just stolen a march on the rest of the field in trying to hire the creative genius.

Aston Martin look set to be Alpine’s biggest competition for hiring Adrian Newey

Lawrence Stroll is a man on a mission and desperate to make Aston Martin a force to be reckoned with on the grid.

Unfortunately, they sit 5th in the Constructors’ Championship this year – a position Alpine will be very jealous of right now – but miles off the pace of the top four teams.

However, Aston Martin have hired brilliantly this year, including bringing in Andy Cowell who almost everyone else on the grid wanted.

Newey looked to be heading to Aston Martin at one point but until an announcement is made, teams such as Alpine will have hope that they can hijack any move.

Ferrari weren’t happy with Newey’s wage demands and while that won’t be a problem for Aston Martin given the amount of cash they’ve invested in their F1 project, it’ll be interesting to see if Alpine are willing to offer him what he wants.
