In a year when the driver’s market was expected to be the main focus outside of the racing in Formula 1, another man has dominated speculation in the paddock.
Adrian Newey announced early into the campaign that he would be bringing his nearly two-decade association with Red Bull to an end next year.
He’ll be hoping that Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez can deliver another two titles for the team before he departs in 2025.
However, one of the most interesting parts of the saga is that Newey still hasn’t given an indication of where he’ll be working next.
Journalist Ralf Bach was speaking on the F1 Insider YouTube channel about the situation and shared that he’s receiving new information all the time about the 65-year-old’s next step.
Ferrari seemed desperate to hire Newey to form a legendary partnership with Lewis Hamilton when he joins Mercedes in 2025.
However, that looks very unlikely now and Aston Martin are now being talked about as Newey’s most likely next destination.
Bach believes there’s another twist in the tale and Newey has now received a ‘huge’ offer from Aston Martin’s rivals Alpine.
The French team are in a bit of turmoil this year with performances on the track not meeting expectations and rumours that Alpine could be sold in the future.
If Alpine commit to Newey and his salary demands, it may be a sign that they’re still committed to staying on the Formula 1 grid.

Alpine have made ‘huge’ financial offer to Adrian Newey
Speaking about Newey’s future, Bach said: “Wow, it’s a never-ending story!
“I find out new things every day, once he was at Ferrari, then he cancelled, then he signed with Aston Martin.
“That seemed pretty clear, but now I’ve found out that there is another new alternative and that is Alpine.
“Led by Luca de Meo the Renault CEO and his advisor at Alpine Flavio Briatore, they want to step on the gas again and have probably already met with Newey two or three times.

“They’ve not only made him a huge offer financially, but also guaranteed a certain amount of influence that he wants to have which Newey might not have had at Mercedes for example, or at Ferrari either.
“They don’t want to change the whole structure because of a technician and at Aston Martin, suddenly they came and now Alpine is also added.
“I think it boils down to Aston Martin and Alpine at the moment.”

Ferrari weren’t happy with one Adrian Newey contract demand
Given his reputation in the sport and the fact that most of the grid have now at least considered making him an offer – if not put a contract in front of him – Newey can make some serious demands.
Marc Priestley believes Ferrari weren’t happy with one thing Newey asked for that would have made life difficult for team principal Frederic Vasseur.
However, for teams chasing success rather than being on the cusp of it, more sacrifices are sometimes required to make big steps forward.
Alpine have only scored 11 points this season and bringing in Newey would be an amazing boost for the team.
There are similarities between Alpine’s approach to Newey and how Briatore tried to hire Carlos Sainz when he appeared close to a deal with Williams.
Ultimately, this missed out, but, it showed they were in the mix for a top driver and while they may not end up hiring Newey, it looks good for them to be in the conversation.
