Eddie Jordan has admitted that he simply can’t see Carlos Sainz driving for Audi – currently Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber – when he leaves Ferrari at the end of the season.
Carlos Sainz is likely to be the key piece in the Formula 1 driver market this year after losing his seat to Lewis Hamilton.
Speaking on the Formula For Success Podcast, Jordan immediately dismissed the idea of the Spanish driver heading to Sauber for 2025.
Jordan can’t see Sainz driving for Audi
There are 13 drivers on the grid who currently don’t have a contract for the 2025 season.
That includes Alex Albon, although team principal James Vowles has insisted that he’s signed up for next year, however, it would be a surprise if there wasn’t some sort of break clause in his deal.
The headline name that doesn’t have an agreement for next year is Carlos Sainz.
The 29-year-old was the only man to break the dominance of the Red Bulls last year, but that wasn’t enough to convince Ferrari to retain him.
That’s not really his fault as when seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton becomes available, you can’t really turn him down.
However, Jordan insists that he simply can’t see Sainz heading to Audi as his next destination.
Despite the personal connection to the team through his father, Jordan believes he has to be more ambitious with his next move.

Sainz a key piece of the F1 driver market
Reflecting on where the Spaniard could end up on the grid, Jordan said: “This Audi thing is nonsense guys, get a grip!
“Listen, we’ve had Toyota, we’ve had BMW, we’ve had Honda, we’ve had endless numbers of big manufacturers, it doesn’t happen like that, it takes years to build it up, I don’t care who’s there.
“It’s absolutely nonsense! Carlos [Sainz] if he’s going to have a big career in Formula 1 has to stick and hang out for Mercedes, McLaren, Red Bull or somebody in that ilk and he’s good enough.
“We started a season not that long ago with Nico Rosberg and no one gave him a chance against Lewis Hamilton and he proved us all wrong. And I see a huge similarity between Carlos Sainz and Nico Rosberg.
“He’s lurking in the background, he’s got enormous talent, he looks brilliant, he acts brilliant, he behaves brilliant.
“I am telling you in my opinion he is ready-made because when the board members are sitting down and remember, it’s not just Toto [Wolff], it’s not just Zak Brown, it’s not just Christian Horner, there are other people at play who make decisions happen and I believe that Carlos Sainz has a huge potential and he will be in a top team.”
Sainz will hope that Jordan is right and he has some better offers to choose from than just Audi.
It’s been reported that Williams are big fans of his and if he ended up replacing Logan Sargeant then that would create a seriously strong partnership.
Anthony Davidson has already assumed he’ll be heading to Sauber next year and maybe that shows that no one really knows exactly where he’ll be driving in the future.
