Alain Prost, an F1 legend who is well-versed in the art of battle with a rival teammate, previously revealed the advice he gave to Toto Wolff during the height of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg’s feud at Mercedes.
The environment within Brackley during Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg’s time together as teammates was often a rollercoaster.
On one hand, Mercedes were winning everything in sight, but on the other, their two star drivers absolutely hated the sight of each other.
It got to a point where both Hamilton and Rosberg wouldn’t even greet each other in the mornings, despite having grown up together as childhood best friends.
On track, it was just as tense. The 2016 Spanish Grand Prix served as a flash point in their rivalry after both drivers collided with each other on the opening lap of the race.
Both Hamilton and Rosberg were fined for the incident and warned that they would be sacked if it ever happened again.

Alain Prost once revealed the advice that he gave to Toto Wolff during Mercedes’ civil war
In a 2021 appearance on Rosberg’s podcast, four-time F1 world champion Alain Prost was asked to recall a conversation he had with Mercedes chief Toto Wolff during the peak of the German driver’s battle with his arch-nemesis.
Having been one half of arguably the greatest teammate battle in the history of F1 alongside Ayrton Senna, Prost’s advice came from experience.
On the podcast, the Frenchman said, “I told [Wolff] a few things. I don’t remember exactly, but I remember it very well.
“I told him to never, ever show to one or the other that they are the preference. Just try to stay the same with both of them.
“Don’t put one or the other in a difficult position, psychologically, because then you’re going to have a problem.
“Obviously, if you do that, then the one who is down is going to try to find some tricks or play a game or whatever. Then you start the thing. Also, the entourage.
“The people around the drivers can also play the game in this case, you know? It was only small, naive advice, but I think it was good.
“I don’t know if it worked inside the team because you cannot see what happened inside.”

Zak Brown thinks Ayrton Senna is the GOAT, prove him wrong
Alain Prost’s rivalry with Ayrton Senna was just as brutal as Nico Rosberg’s with Lewis Hamilton
The rivalry between Prost and Senna gripped Formula 1 during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Both drivers were at the very top of their game at the time, and had just one thought in their minds every time they donned their helmets before the start of a Grand Prix.
The most notable incident between Prost and Senna came at the 1990 Japanese Grand Prix, when the latter crashed out of the race at turn one and took his nemesis with him, sealing the title for himself.
Senna would go on to privately admit that what he did was unacceptable that day in Suzuka, highlighting how the pair of legends shared a deep respect for each other underneath the aggression on track.
There has been a heated debate over which driver was superior ever since the conclusion of their respective careers, with Jackie Stewart opting for Prost as his pick.
