F1 expert shares which team came up with the ‘most clever solutions’ over the winter

Every team was looking for the best solutions to improve their cars from last year, but Red Bull once again might be leading the way going into 2024.

Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez will hope that the RB20 is even quicker than the RB19 and that they can prevent Carlos Sainz from denying them a perfect season.

Speaking on the Short Corners Podcast with Peter Windsor, F1 tech expert Craig Scarborough believes Christian Horner’s team have once again got an advantage over their rivals.

Red Bull find ‘most clever solutions’ ahead of the 2024 season

Pre-season testing gives fans their first glimpse of each car on long runs and fitted with the vast majority of parts that they’ll actually be using at the start of the season.

Plenty of teams like to be clandestine at their initial launches and might wait until the car is on track to showcase all the upgrades and improvements they’ve made.

However, as soon as people saw the RB20, it was clear that Adrian Newey and his design and aero teams had gone in a slightly different direction.

They may have fitted a fake floor, but their sidepods attracted a lot of attention.

Not only that, there are already reports that they’ll move towards ‘zeropods’ as the season goes on.

But, Red Bull appear to have found even more solutions over the winter that could make their 2024 car even quicker.

Sky Sports expert Bernie Collins is slightly suspicious that the car we’ve seen will be exactly what takes to the track when testing begins.

But every other manufacturer will be watching very closely to see if they’ve taken another step forward.

Red Bull once again leading the way under current regulations

Speaking about who appears to have done the best work over the winter break, Scarborough said: “It sets us up for a fascinating year because at this stage, who’s won the design competition of the new cars and is it Mercedes, is it Ferrari, is it McLaren?

“I think at the moment Red Bull are probably looking the best, they’ve got the best starting point and they’ve done the most clever solutions.

“So, we’ll see for certain in testing.”

If Red Bull have found solutions to make their 2024 car even quicker then it’s going to take a monumental effort from one of their rivals to create any sort of title challenge.

McLaren will be confident given how they finished last season and they’ve been slightly coy about the steps forward they’ve taken in the past few months.

Mercedes may end up being very frustrated if Red Bull have managed to nail the zeropod design that they worked on for years.

A dominant Red Bull car this year will have fans and the rest of the grid wishing they could fast forward to the 2026 season when the new regulations come in.
