Even with his excellent driving ability, Zak Brown sees Max Verstappen helping the team’s branding just as much, if not more.

With Brown reportedly escalating his interest in Verstappen, it appears as though McLaren will make a serious push to land the Red Bull driver.

Verstappen’s presence as a driver will undoubtedly help the team, but the Dutch driver’s stature as one of the sport’s biggest icons will undoubtedly boost McLaren’s global image.

Will Max Verstappen be a Red Bull Formula 1 driver in 2027?

While McLaren would regret losing Oscar Piastri in the process, the opportunity to land a driver like Max Verstappen doesn’t come about very often.

And with both the racing and commercial boost Verstappen can bring to McLaren, Zak Brown has eyes to poach him away from Red Bull.

Zak Brown knows what it would to do to McLaren’s ‘marketing’ if they sign Max Verstappen

Speaking on Nailing The Apex, Dutch reporter Nelson Valkenburg explained why Zak Brown is enamoured with the idea of landing Max Verstappen.

On top of the boost it would give the team on the track, Verstappen would also bring commercial and marketing success to the team that would appeal to Brown as team CEO.

“Of course, we know Zak Brown would love to have Verstappen. What would it do to his market value and every sponsorship spot on the car? If you have Norris and Verstappen there, it would fit him completely.

“It would fit him to say to Max, ‘Hey, I’ve got this beautiful orange hypercar. You could do this alongside your Formula 1 career. Be a McLaren guy!’ It fits with the marketing strategy Zak Brown has.”

There’s no denying that Max Verstappen would completely boost the team’s profile, and would attract a lot of financial backers to McLaren.

Max Verstappen could be convinced to stay after seeing Red Bull’s recent improvement

For all the interest other teams have in Max Verstappen, Red Bull are likely to be his preferred team if they can get things right.

After a poor start to the season, Red Bull have fixed many of their problems, which resulted in Verstappen landing his best position this season with a P5 finish at the Miami Grand Prix.

Over the weekend, Verstappen showed an eagerness to race that we hadn’t seen from him in prior races. And if Red Bull’s improvement was genuine, then he could have even better performances this season.

Verstappen has often expressed a desire to stay with Red Bull till he ends his career. And if their competitive woes are over, then he should have very little reason to leave.
