The Formula 1 driver’s market is going to be crazy heading into 2025 and Williams star Alex Albon could be at the centre of the chaos.
Alex Albon has been sensational since joining the legendary F1 team and single-handedly dragged Williams into seventh in the Constructors’ Championship last year.
A report from ESPN suggests that the 27-year-old driver is now keen to move on after this season as he looks to take the next step in his Formula 1 career.
At the end of the 2023 season, journalist Will Buxton suggested that Albon could be one of the biggest players in the driver’s market this year.
Three-quarters of the grid see their contracts expire this year and will therefore know how important their early performances are to retain their place in the sport.
Not only that, each driver will want to be in the fastest car possible and Sergio Perez’s contract ending at Red Bull opens up an exciting opportunity.
Ferrari also have to decide on the futures of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
Leclerc looks set to sign a bumper deal and while Sainz wants to stay at Ferrari, they’re less sure about retaining a Spaniard.
Albon now looks likely to walk away from Williams when his contract ends this year and head to a new team in 2025.
There will be several teams keeping a close eye on the Thai driver and Eddie Jordan has even suggested he’d like to see him make a sensational return to Red Bull.

Albon to leave Williams at the end of contract ahead of 2025 season
The report from ESPN suggests, ‘it is believed Albon is keen to get himself free of his current Williams deal, which has him at the team until 2025.’
They go on to say that sources told them that two teams tried to sign Albon last year, but Williams turned down their advances.
Albon will be well aware of the interest in him and leaving Williams to sign a new contract elsewhere in 2025 doesn’t seem like the worst decision.
However, if James Vowles – who is an incredibly impressive team principal – can continue to lead the team forward, then he might hope he can convince Albon to stick around.
Logan Sargeant has to kick on in 2024 and if he doesn’t then Williams might be looking for a pair of new drivers next year.
That could open up an opportunity for a certain Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
The Mercedes junior is extremely highly-rated and Mercedes have a relationship with Williams that could see them team up once again to offer the Italian a chance on the grid sooner rather than later.
