Williams’ 2026 Formula 1 car, the FW48, reportedly ‘overloaded’ the team’s factory systems because it was too ‘complicated’.
It has been a torrid start to the 2026 F1 season for Williams as they continue to deal with the problematic FW48.
Their year started on the wrong foot when they failed to show up for the first pre-season test in Barcelona.
In Bahrain, it became clear that Williams could be set for a long season, as weight issues have limited the FW48’s performance.
After three races, Carlos Sainz has only scored two points, with Alex Albon yet to get off the mark.

Williams FW48 ‘overloaded’ factory systems because it was too ‘complicated’
According to a recent report by The Race, Williams’ internal systems were overloaded during the build of the FW48, which team principal James Vowles labelled as ‘three times more complicated’ than anything they have built before.
It has been suggested that, as a result of their internal systems being overloaded, the manufacturing of parts fell behind.
However, it appears that good news is on the horizon as upgrades are set to be introduced at this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix.
The report stated that the weight of the FW48 is likely to be reduced, meaning the performance should be much-improved.

Alex Albon says Williams have ‘repositioned’ their focus after dismal start to 2026
Speaking on The Fast and The Curious podcast, the Williams driver spoke about the team working ‘flat out’ during F1’s April break.
However, Albon admitted that it will be ‘tough’ to turn things around quickly and also stated that the team’s focus has been altered.
Albon said: “It is, it will be tough, but there is so much baggage on the car, I can see how no one says it’s easy, but there is a lot of potential for us to go forward.
“It won’t happen overnight, it’s really like a race-by-race chip away at it kind of thing. I think, for example, we have an upgrade package in Miami. It will be better, but it won’t be the biggest thing since sliced bread.
“It is kind of that thing, realistically, we are now repositioning our focus, it will be to get back to the midfield fight and then getting to the top of that fight.
“Let’s see, but with the new regulation change, the potential for the team to improve is massive and I think by the end of the year, we will have a completely different car than what we have now. Full push ahead, the factory is working flat out.”
