Franco Colapinto is facing increasing pressure to retain his seat in Formula 1 with Alpine in 2025.

The Argentine has had a torrid season since replacing Jack Doohan after six races. He has not enjoyed the same success with Williams in 2024 as in the A525 this year.

Ted Kravitz said ‘poor’ Colapinto was under mounting pressure at the Belgian Grand Prix last weekend. Alpine would have wanted a result from the 21-year-old, but once again, he languished at the back.

Colapinto qualified and finished 19th in the Sprint on Saturday and was again knocked out in Q1 in Grand Prix qualifying. He struggled for pace at Spa as he finished P19 on Sunday, while Pierre Gasly scored a point for Alpine in 10th.

The Frenchman has scored all 20 of the Enstone outfit’s points in 2025 thus far, with neither of his teammates coming close to him all year. Alpine insiders say Colapinto is too far behind Gasly and he is running out of time to rectify that.

Franco Colapinto could lose Alpine seat by the end of the season ‘at the latest’

Rumours have been swirling around that the Argentine could soon lose his seat. His results have left Alpine at the bottom of the constructors’ championship, with Gasly being relied on as their only source of points.

Flavio Briatore is ‘internally’ demanding points from Colapinto as the team struggles at the back of the grid. With no points from seven races, the 21-year-old will be under immense pressure to turn it around.

Many have been left wondering when Colapinto could be given the boot at Alpine. According to a report from Auto Motor und Sport, he will be out of the team ‘by the end of the year at the latest’.

Given his current form and the speculation surrounding potential replacements, it would perhaps be a surprise if Alpine were to give Colapinto until the end of the season. If that is the case, he simply must take his opportunity.

Who could replace Franco Colapinto at Alpine?

The feeling is that the Argentine will be losing his seat at some point in the future. It was even reported that Doohan was ‘expecting’ to replace Colapinto at the Belgian GP and reclaim his spot at Alpine, but that never came to fruition.

The Aussie, as well as Paul Aron and Valtteri Bottas, have been mentioned as possible options for the Enstone outfit.

Bottas has an ‘offer on the table’ from Alpine to make his return to the F1 grid. But the Finn is also one of Cadillac’s main targets for their debut season in 2026.

It is believed that Bottas favours a move to Cadillac and wants to secure a long-term contract there. Aron is the favourite to replace Colapinto, but when that will be is anyone’s guess.
