Ferrari are in a turbulent position as the summer break approaches in the 2025 Formula 1 season.

Many anticipated the Maranello outfit would have the tools to be a title contender this season. Having missed out on the constructors’ championship by 14 points in 2024, Ferrari were backed to challenge again in 2025.

With Lewis Hamilton joining the team to partner with Charles Leclerc, they had exactly what they needed to fight at the front and potentially win their first piece of silverware since 2008. However, 10 races into 2025, Ferrari are nowhere near the expectations set upon them in either championship.

Leclerc and Hamilton are fifth and sixth respectively, with their championship hopes practically over already. Ferrari could realistically fall 200 points behind McLaren at the next race in Austria.

The team’s concerning lack of performance and issues with the SF-25 have prompted speculation that a major change could be on the horizon. Fred Vasseur is under pressure to keep his job, with his contract being up at the end of the year.

Leclerc believes Vasseur is doing a ‘fantastic job’, while the Frenchman was a key reason why Hamilton joined the team from Mercedes. But heading into the Austrian Grand Prix, Ferrari is shrouded in uncertainty.

Vasseur admits he puts pressure on himself at Ferrari as he ‘always’ wants to win with the team. Besides Hamilton claiming in the Sprint in Shanghai, it has been a disappointing campaign thus far, with three podiums in the opening 10 races.

Ferrari chief John Elkann is reportedly dissatisfied with the team’s performance, leading to speculation that the team principal could soon lose his job.

Elkann stayed quiet on Vasseur’s future as the exit rumours emerged. In fact, he did not mention F1 at all when he appeared at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where he watched Robert Kubica claim Ferrari’s third victory in a row.

Lewis Hamilton is calling for desperate changes at Ferrari

So much was expected from Ferrari at the start of 2025, particularly from Hamilton, who many believed would return to form after a disappointing end to his spell at Mercedes.

But the seven-time champion has struggled to adapt to his new surroundings as he finds it difficult to find balance in the SF-25 and communicate effectively with race engineer Riccardo Adami. Hamilton is not satisfied with Ferrari working methods, finding them ‘too narrow’.

Hamilton has been constantly calling for upgrades to come to the car as he hopes to find some level of performance in 2025. The 40-year-old is 25 points behind his teammate, having not finished on the podium this season.

He wants to see change in Maranello, but Hamilton has put Ferrari in an impossible situation. He wants to upgrade the 2025 car, but also wants the team to focus attention on 2026 and the new regulations, hoping they will bring success back to Italy.
