Although Aston Martin have taken small steps forward since the end of last season, it’s left them in an awkward position in the Constructors’ Championship.
Aston Martin only finished 22 points behind McLaren last year, but since then the top four teams have opened up a gap over the rest of the field.
Mercedes are already nearly 200 points clear of Mike Krack’s team but they currently have more than double RB’s point tally in the team standings.
This leaves Aston Martin chasing performance with updates that they simply haven’t been able to find.
Even when Fernando Alonso was regularly scoring podiums at the beginning of the 2023 season, he quickly lost ground on his rivals as new parts added to the car failed to have the desired effect.
Krack has denied Aston Martin are lost amid their latest update package but until they can challenge for more than just the final few points each race weekend, it’s hard to ignore those claims.
Aston Martin executive chairman Lawrence Stroll has high expectations for the team and has invested huge sums to get the team up to speed.
Stroll is responsible for funding Aston Martin’s state-of-the-art new factory which should help them in the future when it comes to developing their new cars.
Speaking on the Nailing The Apex Podcast, journalist Lawrence Barretto was speaking about Krack’s relationship with Stroll.
He was full of praise for the Luxembourgish engineer and his ability to handle working with the Canadian billionaire.
Stroll wants his team to be challenging for championships and those hopes in check isn’t easy for Krack.
However, he’s doing a good job building the team in the right way, keeping Alonso happy and building a fantastic group of engineers and designers behind the scenes.

Mike Krack doing brilliant job working with Lawrence Stroll at Aston Martin
Talking about Alonso’s decision to stay at Aston Martin and what’s happening behind the scenes at Silverstone, Barretto said: “I think he’s all his eggs are in the Aston Martin bucket for the sole basis of his age.
“I think where he’s at, he’s committed long-term. He’s clearly going to be a brand ambassador after he leaves Formula 1.
“I’m sure they’ll fund any motorsport project that he would like to do going forward because who wouldn’t want Fernando Alonso in your car when you’re entering a new series?
“But I think he’ll take hope from the signings that they’ve made. I think he’ll take hope from the fact Adrian Newey’s linked there.

“I think he’ll take hope from the fact the wind tunnel will be up and running next year and I think he’ll take hope from the fact that I think he gets on well with Mike Krack.
“I think he’s gone down very well within that team. I think his personality suits them.
“He absorbs the pressure from Lawrence Stroll like someone I’ve never seen. So, you know, to be able to cope with that and still have a laugh and be normal, I think, is it’s the incredible character trait.
“I don’t know how long you could do it for, but I think he’s doing a great job so far holding it all together.”
Aston Martin still chasing Adrian Newey to join outstanding backroom staff team
Stroll is doing everything he can to give Krack the tools he needs to lead the strongest F1 team possible.
Enrico Cardile has joined Aston Martin from Ferrari while almost every team on the grid wanted Andy Cowell before he decided to head to Silverstone.
However, the jewel in the crown would be Adrian Newey who has announced that he’ll be leaving Red Bull next year.
Newey and Stroll have had dinner amid interest from the British team and Newey was given a secret tour of the Aston Martin factory when the staff weren’t working.
With new regulations on the horizon in 2026, having someone of Newey’s ability available to help design the car would be a fantastic addition.
Until then, Krack needs to continue to appease Stroll and explain how Aston Martin are going to achieve his dreams of winning in Formula 1.
