Max Verstappen was left furious after the Hungarian Grand Prix following a series of incidents on his way to fifth place in his Red Bull.

The Dutchman started the race from third on the grid and briefly overtook Lando Norris into the first corner, but was told to hand the position back by his team otherwise face intervention from the stewards for gaining an advantage.

Verstappen was later heard arguing with his Red Bull engineer Gianpiero Lambiase over their strategy on the team radio after the Dutchman was pitted later than Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc and emerged behind them.

After getting past Leclerc in the closing stages of the race, he battled with Hamilton and pulled off a move into Turn 1 but out-braked himself and collided with his old title rival.

The collision incurred an investigation from the stewards, while an irate Verstappen told his engineer that he moved under braking. Lambaise dismissed and branded Verstappen “childish” over the radio. After the race tensions were still high between the pair and an exchange was heard between the two.

Verstappen went airborne in the crash with Hamilton and is currently under investigation by the stewards after the race, meaning he faces a potential position drop if they issue a post-race time penalty.

Lambaise was in a sarcastic team radio exchange with Verstappen, showing the high tensions between the pair after a disappointing result for the Dutchman.

Max Verstappen loses out to McLaren one-two

It was an important race for Verstappen to counter a McLaren one-two by earning a podium, but it was clear that he struggled with pace in the opening stages of the race.

Lambaise is normally silent over team radio but there was a series of exchanges relating to car balance throughout the race between the pair.

Verstappen was unhappy with Red Bull’s reactionary strategy to Mercedes, having eventually lost out to their powerful undercut by pitting several laps later in the first stint.

The pair are known for their often sarcastic messages, but it appears the combination of poor car balance and strategy annoyed Verstappen as he tried to maximise his result. He eventually finished in fifth, 21 seconds off race winner Oscar Piastri.
