Max Verstappen has been dealt another blow at Red Bull, with it emerging that one of the Dutchman’s key Red Bull allies is on his way out of Milton Keynes in favour of one of the F1 grid’s resident backmarkers.
The move will mark the latest key figure within Red Bull Racing’s F1 setup to defect to a rival team, following the latest confirmation that Max Verstappen’s race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, will join McLaren for the 2028 season.
A lot has changed at Red Bull since 2023 – should we be worried about them?
It also comes amid the Dutchman’s restlessness at the Austrian constructor. There has been a lot of talk about whether Verstappen will see out the rest of his contract at Red Bull, with it currently looking certain that he will meet the criteria for a performance-related exit clause.
Mercedes remain interested in the four-time world champion’s services, with McLaren also emerging as a candidate for Verstappen’s signature in a straight swap involving Oscar Piastri.
Paul Monaghan’s Red Bull exit is ‘confirmed’ and he will be ‘heading’ in Cadillac’s direction
Ahead of last weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix, F1 pundit Ralf Schumacher noted that he had heard Paul Monaghan may be ‘on his way’ out of the Red Bull after speaking to some figures within the F1 paddock at the previous round of racing in Barcelona.

In the latest episode of the Backstage Boxengasse podcast, journalist Peter Hardenacke revealed that Monaghan’s exit is all but announced, adding that the sport’s newest outfit, Cadillac, will be acquiring the British engineer’s services.
“Red Bull’s organisational structure has been almost as fluid as gas over the last few years,” he said to co-host Schumacher. “So many staff members have effectively ‘drifted away’. We touched on this again at the weekend, Ralf.
“Big names like Dr Helmut Marko, Christian Horner, but above all Adrian Newey, Jonathan Wheatley and so on, and Rob Marshall in the years before that. One after the other, they’re leaving.
“Incidentally, you mentioned Paul Monaghan – it’s now been confirmed, though it’s not quite official yet, but this is now the information coming from other sources as well.
“It seems he’ll be heading in the direction of Cadillac, according to several sources. It’s still unclear what role he’ll take on.”
The American constructor has sorely struggled during their first term of racing in the pinnacle of single-seater motorsport, with both Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas awaiting their first points-scoring finish on a race weekend.
While Hardenacke is unsure of Monaghan’s role at the team at this point in time, it’s clear that someone of the 58-year-old’s experience would be a key member of Cadillac’s charge as they attempt to become competitive in F1.
