As Sergio Perez makes his return to F1, the veteran driver is expecting success with Cadillac in their first season.

After a year away from Formula 1, Sergio Perez is back on the driver grid. This time, he will be representing Cadillac as they make their debut in F1.

Perez’s previous stint with Red Bull had some strong moments, including a Monaco Grand Prix win in 2022, but ended after mutual frustration from the driver and the team.

Now with Cadillac, Perez is hoping to prove his value as a driver. While Perez’s form in testing raised eyebrows, there is hope that the Mexican driver can get things right come time for the Australian Grand Prix.

Now 36 years old, Perez finds himself a veteran in F1, trying to fend off a new generation of drivers. But he is confident in his ability to find success with Cadillac.

Sergio Perez excited for new journey with Cadillac, expects quick results

When speaking to the Back at Base podcast, Sergio Perez talked about his year away from Formula 1 and how he hopes to adapt this season.

In laying out his goals with Cadillac, Perez admitted that he wants to see progress from the team really quickly and wants to go ‘all the way’ with them.

“Once you step out of it and you see it from the outside, you have learned a lot of things. For example, when you are in it, you tend to worry a lot of things that are not representative for the public.”

“When you have a bad race, you think the world is over. The highs and lows of the sport are extreme. Nothing is going to change on the outside. Just keep enjoying it…”

“Yeah, I definitely want to go all the way with this team. I want to enjoy the journey with them, and I want to see progress quickly. This is what I’m here for. I’m pretty confident we will be able to progress extremely quickly. Cadillac is here to do great things.”

Valtteri Bottas treating Cadillac debut season as ‘fresh start’ in F1

On the other side, Perez’s Cadillac teammate, Valtteri Bottas, is approaching his first season with Cadillac as a fresh start in the sport, coming in with a different perspective than in years past.

“It’s like a comeback. I’ve really approached the sport now with a different view of the sport, with more respect to the sport, more respect to the staff or the team members.”

“I want to make it the best season I’ve had, personally. I want to give it all to myself, but first of all to the team. So if I can finish next year with a feeling that there was nothing I could have done better, that is a good goal.”

Despite their shared optimism, both Bottas and Perez have called for improvement from Cadillac after their first go-around in testing.

Given the wealth of experience both drivers have, Cadillac will be relying on them throughout the season as they try to adjust to the new F1 regulations.
