Liam Lawson is overdue a Formula 1 opportunity, ever since he stepped in for Daniel Ricciardo at AlphaTauri last year and proved his consistency and dependability.
But, Red Bull are not willing to let him go just yet, with two main reasons for not allowing him an opportunity to go and replace Logan Sargeant at Williams.
He has hung around as a third driver for them all season, testing and spending lots of time in the simulator back in Milton Keynes.
Helmut Marko has promised Lawson a Formula 1 drive for 2025, but whether or not that will be within the Red Bull stable remains to be seen.

What are the reasons for Red Bull refusing a Liam Lawson move to Williams?
There are not many seats left for next season, which means that Marko’s promises are going to become more difficult to fulfil by the day.
It’s clear that Red Bull have two seats at the senior team and Visa Cash App RB, and three drivers (Daniel Ricciardo, Sergio Perez and Lawson) to fill them.

According to sport.de, Red Bull are and were not willing to loan Lawson to a team which has any association with their rivals Mercedes.
With Williams being an engine customer of the Silver Arrows, that ruled them out of the race for the Kiwi, and left them to sign Argentine rookie Franco Colapinto from Formula 2.
But, that isn’t the only reason, with the team fearful that Perez’s performances may worsen and spark the need for Lawson in the case that they have to make a mid-season swap.

Are Red Bull headed in the wrong direction?
Red Bull’s now slender advantage in the constructors’ championship seems to be diminishing at a rapid rate and on current form, won’t last much longer.
Not only do McLaren appear stronger around most circuits, but Perez has proven himself to be unsuitable as a backup to Max Verstappen and the team in recent times.
Where Oscar Piastri is capable of keeping up with Lando Norris most of the time, Perez is never able to do against Verstappen, and it looks set to cost Red Bull one of the two titles in the long run.

It may even place the drivers’ title at threat, with McLaren able to gang up on Verstappen during races and use strategy to their advantage.
The moment Piastri can finish ahead of the reigning champion, could be when Lawson’s phone buzzes, or even Ricciardo down at VCARB, as they look for a mid-season rejuvenation.
Teams have been in a similar predicament before, thinking back to Brawn in 2009, who held on to win the championship despite a lacklustre second half of the season, but there are more races in the calendar now and Red Bull are more vulnerable to the previously unthinkable.
