Red Bull have reportedly been hit with a huge problem that they might not be able to solve until 2027.

So far in the 2026 season, Red Bull have found it tough to keep pace with the likes of Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren.

Red Bull are currently sixth in the standings, having scored just 16 points from the opening three races.

To make matters worse, Max Verstappen is said to be considering retirement at the end of 2026, having described his car as ‘undriveable’.

Meanwhile, Isack Hadjar has claimed that although the Red Bull RB22 has a good engine, the chassis is ‘terrible’.

He said: “We have a good power unit, the engine is good. The problem is that the chassis is terrible.”

Red Bull need a year to fix ‘terrible’ problem on the RB22

According to Spanish news outlet Marca, the RB22 is also overweight, and it is ‘expected’ that Red Bull will not be able to solve it until 2027, when a new chassis can be incorporated.

The report stated that the current chassis on the RB22 is losing around eight-tenths of a second, with the engine losing two-tenths.

Looking ahead, it is believed that Red Bull are set to bring upgrades to next month’s Miami Grand Prix, which will hopefully ‘lighten’ the RB22.

The planned upgrades have been described as ‘crucial’ as Red Bull will be relying on them to determine whether the RB22 can be improved for the remainder of the season.

Red Bull need to do everything they can to keep Max Verstappen happy

Speaking during the Chinese Grand Prix weekend, Verstappen gave a grim review of his car.

The Dutchman claimed that ‘nothing’ was working on the RB22.

He said: “We turned it upside down and it was exactly the same. Every time I did another lap on a tyre set, it felt awful. I honestly think it will be quite tough tomorrow.

“In the past, sometimes we throw it [the car] upside down and it worked. Now, nothing works. It’s just not nice. I cannot push. Every lap is survival for me.”

Red Bull appear to be fighting a losing battle to keep Verstappen happy, given his discontent over the new regulations.

In addition, it was reported on Thursday morning that Gianpiero Lambiase will leave Red Bull for McLaren in 2028.

However, if Red Bull’s planned upgrades work, Verstappen will feel a whole lot better about things and the future once his car improves.
