Christian Horner issues a brutal verdict about the Formula 1 field in the latest season of Drive to Survive as the Red Bull chief looks ahead to the fight for the titles in 2024.

The team from Milton Keynes produced the most dominant campaign in F1 history to claim Max Verstappen’s third drivers’ title and a seventh constructors’ championship in 2023. Red Bull would even have still won the teams’ title without the 285 points Sergio Perez claimed.

Verstappen ran away with the 2023 season to take the title with six Grand Prix and also two Sprint events to spare. The 26-year-old sealed a third successive championship after Perez crashed in the Sprint at the Qatar GP. While the Dutchman finished his year with 575 points.

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen smashed Formula 1’s record books in 2023

Records fell throughout 2023 for Verstappen, too, as he set Formula 1’s longest winning run with 10 Grand Prix. He also won the most Grand Prix from pole position (12), took the most hat-tricks (6), led the most laps (1,003) and set the best win per cent at 86.36% in a season.

Only Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz also interrupted Verstappen’s run of 17 wins in 18 Grand Prix starting from the Miami GP in April. The Dutchman and Perez had won two Grand Prix each over the opening four rounds. Perez also did the double with the Sprint at the Azerbaijan GP.

But Red Bull team principal Horner suggests in episode 10 of season six of Netflix’s ‘Drive to Survive’ that no team, including his, will ever match their dominance in 2023. He also claims the team from Milton Keynes may only need to win 50% of the races to win both 2024 titles.

“We’ve won 95.5% of the races, we’ve won all of them bar one,” Horner said. “We’ve had 30 podiums. Max is the most successful driver in a season.

“It’s been unbelievable for a sportsman to hit that kind of form for that period of time – it’s outstanding. You’ll never see this kind of winning again, certainly in my lifetime or in any of our lifetimes.

“Even if we win 50% of what we achieved this year, that might be good enough to defend the championships next year.”

Horner’s prediction for the 2024 title races shows the Red Bull boss’ brutal view on the rest of the Formula 1 grid. He is clearly confident that the RB20 is strong enough to extend their dominance at the front of the field. Even if their dominance regresses from with the RB19.
