Red Bull have already made Alex Albon a multi-year contract offer to leave Williams and replace Sergio Perez back beside Max Verstappen in the 2025 Formula 1 season.

The Milton Keynes squad are already looking into the future with Perez out of contract after 2024. Albon is also set to be a free agent at the end of this year, so could now return to Red Bull. He shared their garage with Verstappen from the middle of 2019 until the end of 2020.

Red Bull opted to demote Albon and bring Perez in from outside their stable of drivers after struggling to match Verstappen. But the 27-year-old has simply continued to grow and grow since returning to F1 with Williams in 2022 after competing in DTM during the 2021 season.

Red Bull offer Alex Albon a contract to replace Sergio Perez

Albon showed flashes of his potential on race day with Red Bull during the 2020 season. The London-born Thai enjoyed podium finishes at that year’s Tuscan and Bahrain GPs. But Perez leaving Racing Point as they became Aston Martin saw Red Bull pursue the Mexican’s arrival.

Now, however, Peter Windsor reports that Red Bull have already offered Albon a three-year contract to replace Perez from 2025. The journalist also adds that he is 90% sure that Albon will replace the 34-year-old next year. But he is yet to sign a deal to return to Milton Keynes.

Red Bull arguably promoted Albon too early in his Formula 1 career during the 2019 season to replace Pierre Gasly. He moved up from their sister team, Toro Rosso, after only 12 races as a Grand Prix driver. Albon then had to get to grips with the very different car mid-season.

Now, though, Albon is not the same driver he was at Red Bull and led Williams to seventh in the 2023 constructors’ championship. He scored 27 of their 28 points beside rookie Logan Sargeant. Now, Red Bull are not the only team interested in taking Albon in the 2025 season.

Reports by Gazzetta dello Sport cite Albon, Gasly, Esteban Ocon and Carlos Sainz as options for Audi ahead of Sauber becoming the German automotive giants’ factory F1 team in 2026. Lawrence Barretto also linked Albon with Ferrari before the Scuderia signed Lewis Hamilton.

Why is Alex Albon such a sought-after Formula 1 driver for 2025?

Albon has become a vastly sought-after Formula 1 driver after exceeding the potential of the Williams car in 2023. He penned P7 finishes at the Canadian and Italian GPs after fending off much faster rivals. Albon brilliantly defended by utilising the FW45’s straight-line top speed.

The London-born led a train of cars including Ocon, Valtteri Bottas and Lando Norris home in Canada. While Albon, again, thwarted Norris in Italy, with three-tenths of a second between the pair at the flag. Team principal James Vowles particularly relished Albon’s Canadian GP.

“Alex did really a tremendous job,” Vowles exclaimed to Williams’ in-house media. “The way I described it to him was really a drive of champions. To make no mistakes when you have a stack of cars behind you that are clearly much quicker, with your tyres going away from you, is an extraordinary drive and he did incredibly well with it.”
