All eyes are on Ferrari heading into the 2024 season with both drivers out of contract at the end of the year and Williams driver Alex Albon is rated highly by the team should they decide to make a change to their line-up.
This season’s driver market is going to be very tricky to negotiate for most of the grid with so many deals coming to an end including Ferrari.
Writing on Formula 1’s official site, journalist Lawrence Barretto has shared one potential option The Prancing Horse are considering heading into 2025.
It would be mad to see Ferrari end their relationship with Charles Leclerc at the end of this year.
The Monegasque driver has come through their academy and although they don’t have an official number one driver, Leclerc’s performances especially in qualifying last year showed just how fast he was.
So much so, that Martin Brundle suggested he might be even quicker than Max Verstappen.
However, Carlos Sainz was the only driver who managed to break Red Bull’s tight grip on the top step of the podium in 2023.
While he is also very quick, reports suggest he’s keener to stay at Ferrari than Ferrari are to extend their partnership with Sainz.
If Ferrari can’t agree on terms they want with their current drivers then Alex Albon is rated very highly by the team as a potential replacement.
The £45k-a-week driver looks set to move on from Williams at the end of the year unless they’re competing further up the grid.
It could be a match made in heaven should Ferrari need a new driver sooner rather than later.

Williams star Albon rated very highly by Ferrari
Talking about Ferrari’s options, Barretto said: “If an agreement can’t be done, Ferrari have no shortage of options to look upon with Alex Albon possibly one of the most highly-rated that is available.
“But as it stands, retaining Leclerc and Sainz is understood to be the priority.”
Albon may be rated highly by Ferrari, but he’s going to have to be patient if it’s the seat he wants in the future.
He’s previously admitted to being a big fan of the Italian team and that might end up being a factor in negotiations.
Albon will have to perform to the best of his ability when the season begins to put himself in the frame for a top seat heading into 2025.
