Lando Norris was untouchable with his controlling victory at the Singapore Grand Prix after finishing 20 seconds ahead of title rival Max Verstappen.
The McLaren driver got a great start off the line and led the opening lap for the first time in his career from pole after seven attempts of asking, then proceeded to control the pace.
Lando Norris was told by his engineer to increase the gap to Max Verstappen by five seconds to generate a pit stop margin, but that reached 25 seconds by the time he made his first stop.
Despite two close calls with the walls around the Marina Bay Street Circuit, Norris controlled a lights-to-flag victory in what Martin Brundle described as ‘extraordinary’ during commentary.
Teammate Oscar Piastri finished in third after McLaren after recovering from fifth on the grid. The team knew it would be tough for him to catch Verstappen towards the end of the race, which is why they asked him to manage his pace towards the end.
When speaking about the race on his YouTube channel, Peter Windsor believes there was one trait that prevented McLaren from achieving a one-two in Singapore that sets Norris apart from Piastri.
Peter Windsor explains where Lando Norris is better than Oscar Piastri
Former F1 driver Giedo van der Garde has previously highlighted how Norris is better than Piastri in every area apart from qualifying, where the Briton excels under pressure due to his experience.
There has been some infighting between the McLaren drivers in the last few races, with Piastri taking points away from Norris by finishing ahead.
McLaren has made it clear they will be backing Norris for the title and the latest performance shows why according to Windsor, who highlighted where Piastri is falling short on track.
“He should have really finished second had he not messed up qualifying. He had the pace to mix it up with Lando but the fact is that he did mess up qualifying and one of the reasons why he messed it up is because he’s not quite as soft with his touch as Lando Norris,” said Windsor.
“He has a lot of other great things he brings to the table, but in terms of that softness of touch under pressure Lando has had it.”

Lando Norris edges closer to Max Verstappen
Norris took his third victory of the season and sixth pole position in Singapore, mimicking his weekend at the Dutch GP in which he also won by over 20 seconds from Verstappen.
It is expected that McLaren’s current form will continue until the end of the season, with Red Bull hopeful a car upgrade for Austin will put them back on track for the final six races.

The pair are now separated by just 52 points and if Norris wins the next five races, with Verstappen second, they will be level on points at the season finale in Abu Dhabi.
Piastri has been told this year that he must no longer attack his teammate aggressively at starts if they find themselves close on the grid, but the Australian later admitted that he would not be willing to give up a race win.
