Peter Windsor admits that ‘very, very good’ F1 driver is ‘a bit undisciplined’ right now

Former F1 team manager and journalist Peter Windsor has admitted he’s a big fan of Haas driver Kevin Magnussen.

The 31-year-old had a torrid campaign in 2023 that contributed to Haas finishing bottom of the Constructors’ Championship and Guenther Steiner losing his job.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Windsor has shared his thoughts on the experienced Dane.

It’s never quite worked out for Kevin Magnussen ever since his debut season back in 2014.

A debut podium with McLaren created plenty of excitement after he replaced Sergio Perez.

He was considered a future megastar at the time but 12 months later he was out of the car after being replaced by Fernando Alonso.

A season at Renault in 2016 was followed by a switch to Haas where he’s spent the majority of his career ever since.

He took a year out of Formula 1 in 2021 to race in IndyCar before returning to replace Mick Schumacher the following season.

Windsor has admitted that he’s a big fan of Magnussen’s and thinks the change in management at the American manufacturer Haas could really benefit him.

However, he thinks there are still a few things he can improve on heading into 2024 and might benefit from additional guidance.

Windsor admits ‘very good’ Magnussen might benefit from Haas change

Speaking about the one-time pole sitter, Windsor said: “I see K-Mag as a pretty short corner driver, lots of feel and touch, a bit undisciplined at the moment, sounds very condescending but I think he should do a couple of days with Rob Wilson just to brush up.

“But I think he’s definitely on that side of the fence. Nico [Hulkenberg] stays on the slightly longer corner side of the fence.

“But K-Mag at his best is very, very good from watching him over the years and I hope that the new Haas regime will bring the best out of him again, I can see that.”

There’s a chance that Magnussen may be already under pressure at Haas given his contract runs out at the end of the year, but Windsor has faith in the Danish driver.

Ollie Bearman is reportedly being lined up to drive for the team in 2025, meaning either Magnussen or Nico Hulkenberg will have to move on.

The German is being linked with a move to Audi which if that comes to fruition could see Haas retain Magnussen as the senior driver alongside the young Brit.

It would make a lot of sense as the pair have already worked closely together.
