McLaren claimed their fourth front row lockout after Oscar Piastri narrowly took pole from teammate Lando Norris
The Woking-based team displayed yet another dominant qualifying session, after Norris had topped the time sheets in every practice this weekend.
Piastri will start the race from pole, ahead of his McLaren teammate Norris, with the pair pulling ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who will start from third.
Lance Stroll out in Q1 after second crash of Dutch Grand Prix weekend
Lance Stroll caused the first yellow flag of the session during his first flying lap. Coming out of Turn 12, the Canadian dipped his tyres into the grass, sending the Aston Martin into the barrier.
Stroll, who had also had a nasty shunt in FP2, was able to pull his car from the gravel and bring it back to the pits, but was unable to continue with the session, meaning he will start from the back of the grid.
The end of the Q1 session saw both the Haas cars of Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman, Nico Hulkenberg and Franco Colapinto all eliminated.
Piastri topped the Q1 timings sheet, pulling a gap of 0.131 from his teammate Norris. The timing sheet appeared tight with just three-tenths separating George Russell in third and Gabriel Bortoleto in 15th.
Norris reclaims the lead over teammate Oscar Piastri
Norris set the all-time Zandvoort lap record during the session with a 1:08.874, taking the record from Verstappen, who set a time of 1:08.885 in 2021. The Brit was able to take P1 in the session, claiming the lead back from Piastri in the previous Q1.
Yuki Tsunoda and Kimi Antonelli both failed to get their cars into Q3, falling short of their teammates during another qualifying session. Tsunoda and Antonelli are both out of contract at the end of 2025 and need to impress their Red Bull and Mercedes bosses if they want to retain their seats next season.
Also knocked out of the session were Bortoleto, Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon. The Williams driver shared his frustrations about his car, complaining that he was struggling for grip with his tyres.
McLaren take front row lockout for 2025 Dutch Grand Prix
With the track speeds ramping up, both McLarens broke the Zandvoort all-time lap record again in Q3, showing the sheer pace of the team’s cars. Piastri claimed pole for the Dutch Grand Prix, with his teammate behind him by just 0.012 seconds.
Despite a difficult weekend for Ferrari, both cars made it through to the final qualifying session, with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finishing in P6 and P7 respectively.
Isack Hadjar displayed an impressive performance during Q3, placing himself on the second row of the grid next to Verstappen. His teammate Liam Lawson also made it into the session, finding himself in P8 for tomorrow’s race.
