Lando Norris topped both time sheets during Friday’s practice sessions, as the Brit focuses on closing championship gap to teammate Oscar Piastri
Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso caused surprise, splitting both the McLaren drivers at the top of the leaderboard, with a tiny gap of just 0.087 to Norris.
Isack Hadjar was initially held during the beginning part of the session, making his way out onto the track after the red flag had cleared. It appeared the Racing Bulls car was suffering from a power issue, forcing him to pull over at the side of the track, causing a virtual safety car towards the mid-point of FP2.
Lewis Hamilton once again saw a big spin at Turn 9, after also going round during FP1. It appears the Ferrari cars are struggling with a lower rear, which is forcing both drivers to struggle with the handling.
Alex Albon found himself beached in the gravel at Turn 1, causing the second red flag of the session. A lockup from the Williams front right tyre saw Albon skid across the gravel and into the wall.
After attempting to reverse back onto the run-off road, Albon slipped back too far, forcing him into the gravel.
Coming into the pit lane due to the red flag, Oscar Piastri collided with George Russell, after almost pulling into the wrong garage. Piastri pulled back left after nearly boxing in Lando Norris’ box, forcing Russell to catch the back McLaren tyre with his front wing.
Lance Stroll crash causes FP2 red flag
Lance Stroll had a big crash at Turn 3, just 10 minutes into the session. The Canadian appeared to lock up heading into the banked corner, sending him straight into the barrier.
Stroll confirmed he was okay before pulling himself out of the wreckage of the car. Max Verstappen, who was behind Stroll in the corner, showed concern for the driver’s hands after Daniel Ricciardo saw a similar crash at the turn in 2023, where he broke his hand.
The Canadian was forced to withdraw from the Spanish Grand Prix earlier in the year due to pain in his hand and wrist. Stroll suffered several fractures following a cycling accident in 2023 and was forced to undergo surgery in June 2025 to treat the injury.
It was a disappointing result for Aston Martin who put in a strong performance in FP1, slotting in behind both McLaren drivers.
