While Oscar Piastri didn’t manage to cross the finish line in Abu Dhabi as a Formula 1 world champion, he still sees the 2025 campaign in a positive light.
After being in control of the drivers’ championship for the majority of the season, Oscar Piastri’s dreams of winning a world championship in F1 came crashing down following a swathe of mistakes at a point in time when Lando Norris started to excel.
However, it was only the Australian driver’s third season in the category, and it’s easy to forget how little experience he has compared to his rivals despite holding nine Grand Prix victories to his name.
Piastri is expected to win at least one title during his F1 career, and it’s clear that 2025 just wasn’t meant to be for the 24-year-old. But despite the setback, the McLaren star still managed to enjoy himself in the heat of battle.

Oscar Piastri shares what was ‘pretty cool’ about the 2025 F1 title decider
During an appearance on The Fast and The Curious podcast, Piastri was asked if he was able to enjoy the 2025 F1 season despite being locked into an intense title fight with Norris and Max Verstappen.
The Australian said, “Yes, I did. Normally, winning is more fun than not winning, so that definitely makes things more fun from that side of things.”
Piastri enjoyed a lengthy stay at the top of the F1 standings during the 24-race-long calendar, occupying P1 for 15 race weekends.
While he didn’t end up achieving his ultimate goal in the sport, there were still some moments that he really enjoyed.
He continued, “Obviously, fighting for a championship does come with a lot of pressure.
“But even for me in Abu Dhabi, I still remember walking to the press conference and then sitting in the press conference on Thursday, and there were photographers and journalists queued up out the door to try and get in.
“So that was a pretty cool moment, you know, in F1 history in some ways to be part of. I think there were definitely times where I did enjoy it in the moment as well, which was important.”

Some believe that McLaren’s management of their two drivers may have put Piastri into a position of uncertainty in the Woking-based outfit’s garages, which led to his eventual downfall.
Asked by F1.com if he has spoken to Zak Brown and Andrea Stella much over the winter break, the 24-year-old noted how he has had conversations with them regarding improvements they need to make.
He said, “I think we knew as soon as the season ended, that there were some things that we wanted to improve, and things we wanted to change from last year, because whilst it was a very successful season, we didn’t do everything right and we didn’t do everything as well as we could have.
“It was really important for me and also for them to make sure we’re very clear about what we want to change going forward.
“We had some good discussions in the break about how we can do that and what it would look like.”
