McLaren driver Oscar Piastri has shared his thoughts on the first Las Vegas Grand Prix of the modern era.

Piastri was asked about the newest race in the Formula 1 calendar on The Fellas Podcast.

2023 was expected to be the longest season in F1 history.

The teams were preparing to race on 23 different circuits this year before the cancellation of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix due to flooding.

It doesn’t appear that the race will be reorganised and so this season will tie the record set last year.

The reason the number has once again increased is the introduction of the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Although officially this will be the first running of the Las Vegas GP, F1 has raced in the city before.

In 1981 and 1982, Formula 1 arrived in Sin City for the Caesars Palace Grand Prix.

Alan Jones and Michele Alboreto won those races for Williams and Tyrrell respectively before F1 moved on.

Oscar Piastri has now spoken about how he thinks the race in Las Vegas will go this year.

He admitted he’s not even completely sure on the track layout yet, although he still has months to prepare.

Asked what it will be like when the F1 circus arrives in Nevada, Piastri said: “I think it will be a crazy weekend. It will be insane.

“Well, the race is on a Saturday night for a reason. I don’t know how wild the race will be, I’ve seen a little bit of how the track looks, there are some big straights as well.

“But the atmosphere and just the event itself is going to be wild.”

The circuit itself has the potential to be as iconic as Monte Carlo but for completely different reasons.

In the modern era of F1 which has an added emphasis on off-track entertainment, it makes perfect sense to race in Las Vegas.

It will be the first time in 38 years that a Formula 1 race hasn’t taken place on a Sunday as the sport starts to move away from some of its most entrenched traditions.

Piastri’s sentiments on racing in Las Vegas are likely to be shared by many other drivers on the grid.

Whether the race goes down well with the average F1 fan is yet to be seen.
