McLaren driver Oscar Piastri has added his voice to the growing list of drivers and other stars who have congratulated Lando Norris on winning the 2025 Formula 1 world championship.

Lando Norris became the 35th person to win a Formula 1 drivers’ championship after one of the most gruelling seasons in the sport’s history.

McLaren knew that both of their drivers could win the title at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but the threat of Max Verstappen was constantly lurking after the second half of the campaign, which showed why he’s already won four championships.

Norris’ first champagne pop as a world champion! The first of many?

The Dutchman eventually won the race, achieving his 10th successive podium, but he was still two points short of claiming the title, and Verstappen was quick to congratulate Norris after the race.

Oscar Piastri also celebrated his teammate’s triumph with him, and was seen smiling and laughing among all of the celebrations that McLaren organised after the race.

After hours of media duties and obligations required of any Formula 1 champion, Norris posted on social media, and Piastri was among the first of his peers to send him a message.

Oscar Piastri, George Russell and Harry Kane congratulate Lando Norris on 2025 F1 title win

Norris changed his Instagram bio to ‘WORLD CHAMPIONNNNNN’, and posted a set of pictures of himself celebrating after the race.

The caption of his post simply read, ‘WORLD CHAMPPP!’ and it garnered thousands of comments and more than 2.5 million likes at the time of writing.

Sergio Perez, ahead of his return to F1 in 2026 with Cadillac, said: “Bravo Lando!”

Franco Colapinto replied: “LEGEND congrats mate enjoyyyyyyyy,” while Esteban Ocon said: “Mega job mate well deserved. Enjoy the celebrations!”

His Haas teammate Oliver Bearman replied: “Congratulations!” while Williams team principal James Vowles added: “Massive congratulations, Lando.”

George Russell said: “Congrats mate!!!” alongside a separate post on Instagram, something that Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz also did after the race.

Former F1 champion Damon Hill replied: “Super season Lando. You are a very worthy Champion IMHO [in my honest opinion],” while Piastri simply said: “Congratulations,” which wasn’t completely necessary given the heartbreak he endured on Sunday, but a classy touch nonetheless.

Norris was also sent a message on Instagram by England national football team captain, Harry Kane, who said: “I just wanted to congratulate you on your first F1 title.

“Amazing season, honestly, so happy for you. You deserve it, keep working hard, and I’m sure there’s many more to come.

“So, enjoy the celebrations, and I hope to catch you soon.”

In his official post-race media session, Piastri said: “Congratulations to Lando on the Championship win, it was great to battle with him all the way to the end, and it’s a lovely moment for the team.

“It was a really strong race to finish out this year. We took a risk on strategy, and it paid off, but we just didn’t have an answer to Max.

“It’s been an amazing season and one I am very proud of. We’ll take everything we’ve learned and head into 2026 as the strongest driver I’ve ever been.

“I am excited to see what we can achieve next year.”

Martin Brundle has suggested that he’s certain Piastri is a future world champion, but nobody knows which team will be at the top of the pecking order in 2026.

The competitive order could be completely different as a new generation of Formula 1 cars takes to the grid, but it would be a surprise if Norris and Piastri weren’t very closely matched once again next year.
