McLaren driver Oscar Piastri may not have won the drivers’ championship in 2025, but few would argue against him being one of the most exciting talents in Formula 1 right now.
It’s easy to forget that Oscar Piastri has only taken part in three full F1 seasons so far.
The McLaren driver has already won nine races in his short career, just seven short of Stirling Moss, who holds the record for most victories without a drivers’ championship.
Lando Norris and Max Verstappen defeated Piastri at the end of the 2025 campaign, although some fans weren’t impressed with McLaren’s treatment of the Australian.
How would Oscar Piastri’s career look if he’d joined Alpine?
This led to speculation that the 24-year-old might be considering his options on the grid, with Piastri linked with Ferrari among other teams in the paddock.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown has regularly suggested that his team have the best driver line-up in Formula 1 and is desperate for Norris and Piastri’s relationship to remain strong heading into the next era of the sport.
Piastri might just have dropped his biggest hint that he’s not considering moving away from McLaren any time soon.

Oscar Piastri hopes for ‘plenty more years’ of racing success with McLaren in Formula 1
Piastri was interviewed by Seven Sport during the most recent Ashes test in Melbourne.
Asked about last season and his F1 future, he said: “So many parts of the season that I look back on with great memories, and I think the amount of confidence that I found through the year for myself and my own ability is something I can take forever.
“So yeah, definitely some things to work on and a few moments that I probably wish I had again.
“I’m sure the team think the same, but, no, it’s all going to make us stronger for the future, and we’ve got plenty more years of success to come hopefully.”

Oscar Piastri talks about the 2026 Formula 1 regulation changes
The Australian was then questioned on whether he’s feeling pressure going into 2026 after missing out on the title, or if he’s hungry to get going next year.
Piastri responded: “Just hungry and ready for it. I’m obviously looking forward to a couple of weeks just to chill out and not think about racing, but when we get back in there’s a lot of things to learn for next year.
“A lot of differences with the cars and the engines. So, you never quite know how you’re going to come out of the gate when there’s such a big change, but I think we’re confident in in the people around us and, for myself, I’ve really gained a lot of confidence from some of the things from this season that I can take forward to next year regardless of whatever car we’ve got.”
Piastri is already being backed to win the title next season, although it’s far too soon to know whether McLaren will be competitive enough to make that happen.
The 24-year-old is improving at such a rapid rate that it’s hard to know what his ceiling is.
Norris knows how much of a threat Piastri is, and it will be interesting to see how he responds to another title challenge from his teammate after securing his first title in Abu Dhabi.
