Oscar Piastri was forced to give up the British Grand Prix victory after being handed a 10-second time penalty by the FIA stewards.
The McLaren driver took the lead from Max Verstappen in the opening laps of a thrilling race, which featured drivers battling through changing conditions.
Piastri led for most of the race before there was a late Safety Car when Isack Hadjar crashed off track at Copse corner.
At the restart, Piastri appeared to brake harshly as the Safety Car sped off into the pit lane, causing Max Verstappen to overtake him briefly. The Red Bull driver would later spin exiting Stowe, while Piastri sped off into the lead.
The stewards put him under investigation for a Safety Car infringement and issued a 10-second time penalty. The Australian served the penalty after a late pit stop, allowing Lando Norris to come through and win his first British GP.
Piastri was not happy and sent a scathing response when discussing what happened with his engineer, Tom Stallard, after the race over team radio.

Piastri initially asked McLaren if they could swap the cars if they disagreed with the penalty once he served it at the pit stop, but the team felt it was too close to the end to orchestrate any moves.
When he crossed the line, Stallard told him the gaps and then discussed how they should approach the penalty, prompting a response from Piastri.

Piastri was referring to Nico Hulkenberg, who finished on the podium for the first time in his F1 career after 239 starts.

Stewards ruling reveals the extent of Oscar Piastri’s braking
The FIA stewards published the reasoning behind the penalty straight after the race, and it reveals the extent of Piastri’s misdemeanor.
It claimed that Piastri had “braked hard” with an input of 59.2psi in the brake pedal between Turns 14 and 15, with him reducing his speed from 218kph (135mph) to 52kph (32mph).
The move resulted in Verstappen having to take avoiding action, which is why he overtook him initially under the Safety Car conditions.
Piastri later claimed that he applied the brakes straight after the lights on the Safety Car went out to signify the restart, which is where he was caught out.
