Oliver Bearman could ‘fall out of fashion’ at Ferrari if he cannot clear ‘toughest’ hurdle in 2026

Lewis Hamilton had a miserable first season at Ferrari in 2025, which has raised claims that the Briton could retire from F1 and possibly be replaced by Haas’ Oliver Bearman.

The 40-year-old moved from Mercedes prior to the 2025 F1 season to realise his childhood dream to drive for Ferrari, while also hoping to get his career back on track. Hamilton signed for the Scuderia in February 2024 after having back-to-back winless seasons in ‘22 and ‘23.

But not only would Hamilton’s first term in red return the third winless season of his 19-year F1 career, he also did not claim a single podium in a season for the first time ever. Hamilton’s best results across his first year at Ferrari were all P4 – in Imola, Austria, Britain and the USA.

Hamilton also recorded his worst points total since F1 introduced the current scoring system in 2010 with only 156 for P6 in the F1 drivers’ championship. The seven-time champion also finished the 2025 season by bowing out of qualifying in Q1 at each of the final three rounds.

A lot of F1 fans told Ferrari to sign Bearman after Hamilton’s Q1 exit in Abu Dhabi, where he only achieved P16 to add to his early exits during qualifying in Las Vegas with P20 and Qatar with P18. Hamilton qualified last on pure pace for the first time ever in the rain in Las Vegas.

Bearman has regularly been linked with a switch to Ferrari one day amid Hamilton’s woes in 2025, having impressed with Haas in the 20-year-old’s first full season on the Formula 1 grid. Ferrari loaned their academy product, Bearman, to Haas on a two-year deal starting in 2025.

Also, Motor Sport Magazine now reports that Bearman’s future looks set to be at Ferrari, as it is ‘just a question of when’ he moves to Maranello. But the Briton still risks falling ‘out of fashion’ at Ferrari if Haas cannot adapt to the 2026 F1 regulations, as a new star might rise.

How Haas adapt to the new regulations may be Briton’s ‘toughest challenge’ to claim a seat at Ferrari in the future. Haas will continue to run Ferrari engines through 2028, but the new chassis and aerodynamic rules – with F1 having active aero for the first time – are a big test.

Bearman has put himself in the frame for a seat at Ferrari for 2027, with Charles Leclerc and Hamilton able to leave Ferrari for free in 2026, after impressing the Scuderia during his time in their academy and since stepping up to Formula 1 full-time with Haas in the 2025 season.

The Briton finished P7 on his shock debut with Ferrari in the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, standing in for Carlos Sainz at the last minute following the Spaniard’s appendicitis surgery. Bearman also scored points on his debut for Haas in the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix in P10.

Haas even saw Bearman score points in three of the first four rounds of the 2025 season. A run of 10 Grands Prix without a point then followed, yet Bearman impressed Ferrari with his consistency at the end of 2025 after he secured points during six of the final 10 Grands Prix.

Bearman did not finish lower than P12 across his nine finishes during the final 10 rounds, as well. The Havering native’s run of five consecutive point-scoring finishes – which included a career-best P4 in Mexico City – came to an end when he retired from the Qatar Grand Prix.
