There are undoubtedly going to be Formula 1 drivers on the grid right now who won’t be there in 12 months.
F1 is cut-throat and if you’re performing to the best of your and your car’s ability, then there are plenty of drivers waiting to take your seat.
Speaking on The Race Podcast, journalist Samarth Kanal shared that there’s one driver already in real danger of missing out.
Visa Cash App RB driver Daniel Ricciardo is under pressure and could be replaced by Liam Lawson sooner rather than later.
In the sister Red Bull team, Sergio Perez may have to wait until the rest of the grid is settled before discovering if he’ll still be with the Austrian outfit next year.
However, Kanal believes Williams’ second driver Logan Sargeant will almost certainly lose his seat for the 2025 season.
The 23-year-old didn’t even get the chance to make his case that he’s improved from last year in Australia.
Logan Sargeant fighting to save his F1 seat for 2025
The Australian Grand Prix couldn’t have gone much worse for the Williams team.
A big accident heading into turn six – where George Russell crashed on the final lap of the Grand Prix – wrecked Alex Albon’s car in the first practice session and the chassis was damaged beyond repair.
Sargeant took part in the next practice session, but by Saturday morning his race weekend was over.
James Vowles said it was the ‘hardest decision’ he’d ever had to make as he gave Sargeant’s chassis to Albon to compete for the rest of the Grand Prix.
The Thai driver reached Q2 – something Logan Sargeant hasn’t managed since Las Vegas – but narrowly missed out on scoring points.
Haas drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen got the better of Albon and boosted their team’s chances of finishing above Williams in the Constructors’ Championship.
All of this has now contributed to Sargeant’s chances of securing a seat for the 2025 season looking less and less likely.
He will hope that both chassis are available for the Japanese Grand Prix where he had a tough race last year, but will know how important it is to bounce back and prove he’s on a similar level to his teammate.

Sargeant has everything to play for in Japan
Speaking about Sargeant’s situation in Australia, Kanal said: “I think it’s going to dent his confidence quite a lot and I think dent is a polite way to put it, that must be a really tough thing for a driver to go through.
“I would say that it’s maybe a bit far-fetched to say that we could have a driver change this year.
“Williams would perhaps have to pay the rest of his contract off and it might not be worth doing that because you then have to put a new driver in his car, get him up to speed very quickly in the middle of the season, that’s a very tough ask, especially if that new driver might be someone quite young.
“So, I would say it won’t happen this year. Could it be announced for next year? Yes.
“I think there’s every chance that Sargeant won’t be at Williams next year. I just think he’s struggled a bit, he’s off the pace and if the decision that James Vowles and Williams made is anything to go by, they’re not that confident in his ability compared to Albon.”
Who could Williams replace Logan Sargeant with for next season?
If Sargeant does lose his Williams seat for 2025, then there are plenty of drivers who would love to have his drive.
Reserve drivers Zak O’Sullivan and Franco Colapinto aren’t setting the world of Formula 2 alight so it’s unlikely they would be concerned at this stage.
However, the team might look to that series to replace Sargeant, as Mercedes could try and place Andrea Kimi Antonelli with the team in a similar vein to George Russell.
Carlos Sainz is also a potential option but he will likely be looking further up the grid for his next opportunity when he leaves Ferrari.
