Lewis Hamilton produced one of the most memorable soundbites of the 2025 Formula 1 season before the Belgian Grand Prix. He ‘refuses’ to leave Ferrari without winning a world championship.

Hamilton pointed out that Ferrari have had ‘amazing’ drivers like Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso during their title drought. Kimi Raikkonen (2007) remains their last champion.

In the opinion of their new superstar signing, Ferrari haven’t been firing on all cylinders. That’s why their level of success isn’t in line with their immense resources.

To address that issue, Hamilton has been sending documents upon documents of feedback to the team. At the age of 40, he knows that he’s short on time to instigate a transformation.

Nico Rosberg says Lewis Hamilton is ‘working as hard as ever’ at Ferrari

Nico Rosberg is close with Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur. He’s spoken to the Frenchman about what Hamilton, his former teammate, is doing behind the scenes.

Hamilton is apparently ‘pushing like crazy’ and working as hard as he has at any point in his career. His motivation remains despite his disappointing results.

The seven-time world champion wasn’t able to score a podium in the first half of the season. He arrived at Spa sixth in the standings, 131 points off the championship lead.

“I’m friends with Fred Vasseur, his boss, and I know, which is very nice to hear, that he’s pushing like crazy behind the scenes,” said Rosberg.

“He’s working as hard as ever, he’s not giving up or anything. That’s a cool thing to hear about.”

After a rear suspension upgrade, Ferrari have now halted 2025 development. If they miss the mark with the upcoming regulation changes, Hamilton’s hopes of a record eighth championship could vanish.

Lewis Hamilton is going to even greater lengths than Michael Schumacher

Intriguingly, another former teammate, George Russell, says Hamilton has changed his lifestyle now that he’s no longer winning. He’s apparently more focused on racing than he was previously.

Hamilton is often one of the first to arrive in the F1 paddock, and the last to leave the circuit. He hopes to have the kind of impact Michael Schumacher had at Ferrari.

Schumacher had to wait until his fifth season to win the title at Maranello, having gradually built the team up. They would become one of the most successful combinations in the sport’s history.

It’s said that Hamilton is going to even greater lengths than Schumacher. He was world champion in his second season at both McLaren and Mercedes.
