Former Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg has hailed the job done by James Vowles at Williams this season.

Rosberg was speaking on the Sky Sports F1 Podcast after a fascinating weekend at Monza.

On the face of it, Max Verstappen winning his record-breaking tenth straight race doesn’t sound particularly interesting.

However, several teams would have ended the European leg of the calendar buoyed by their performance in Italy.

Behind Red Bull it’s been a battle between four teams to be the best of the rest.

Ferrari will be delighted they took third and fourth on home turf, with Carlos Sainz doing a fantastic job holding off the Dutchman in the opening laps.

Another team who put more points on the board were Williams.

Alex Albon is quickly becoming one of the most highly-rated drivers on the grid in a car that shouldn’t always be fighting for points.

Nico Rosberg wanted to highlight the job James Vowles has done since joining the team.

He’s taken them from an outfit that was rooted to the bottom of the Constructors’ Championship to comfortably above the bottom three teams.

Rosberg hails Williams chief Vowles

Speaking about the British team, Rosberg said: “Of course, we’ve only had a couple of months, he [Frederic Vasseur] can’t do miracles.

“Although James Vowles at Williams has done miracles.

“James Vowles at Williams has been amazing. What he’s done is he’s already reorganised the whole communication within the team.

“Because the aero wasn’t really communicating well with the simulation, with the chassis construction side of things.

“And he’s just reorganised the communication and already that has really had a big impact in their progress.

“So, that’s been lovely to see.”

Rosberg compared the job Vowles has done as Williams to that of Frederic Vasseur, whom he had one piece of advice for at Ferrari.

Vowles only joined Williams in January off the back of the team finishing 10th in four of the last five seasons.

In Albon, they have a driver who can lead them forward for years to come if they can fend off interest from stronger teams.

Logan Sargeant certainly has potential, but the wealth of talent coming through F2 looking for a place in the sport means he’s already under pressure.

It’s a good time to be at Williams with Vowles at the helm, scoring consistent points with both drivers has to be the aim going forward.
