Max Verstappen has already taken the first step of competing in some of the most prestigious endurance races in motorsport, and the Dutchman also has a teammate in mind for Le Mans.

During various non-race weekends in 2025, Max Verstappen gave F1 fans some extra-curricular entertainment with his venture into GT3 racing at the iconic Nurburgring Nordschleife.

The Dutchman gained his license to race in the group three category at the ‘Green Hell’ in September. Verstappen then blew away the rest of the competition in his first GT3 race at the circuit two weeks later.

With the four-time world champion being given the green light to compete in the 2026 iteration of the 24 Hours of Nurburgring, Helmut Marko stated that Le Mans wasn’t in Verstappen’s plans for next year.

However, it certainly is something he wants to do in the future, and the Red Bull star already has one name in mind for who he wants to share the cockpit with once he does get a chance at the most prestigious endurance race of them all.

Max Verstappen would rather team up with Fernando Alonso at the 24 Hours of Le Mans than ‘99%’ of the F1 grid

In an interview with ViaPlay following the conclusion of the 2025 F1 season, Verstappen touched upon Fernando Alonso’s formidable career in the sport in a verdict on his own longevity.

He said via Mundo Deportivo, “Personally, I believe that at 40 or 44, I will no longer be the same as I am today. But perhaps not in terms of motivation. And if you’re not in a top car, all the more so.

“I am firmly convinced that if Fernando were in a top car, like in 2023, when he was able to fight for podium places, then the fighter comes out again.

“At certain moments, he brings it out, you see what he can achieve, you see that he is a fighter. And when you’ve been a two-time world champion, you’ve won so much, and you’re competing for tenth place…”

He was then asked about a potential partnership with the Spaniard, to which he stated, “[Teaming up with Alonso for Le Mans] would be a good opportunity.

“I’d rather have him in the car than 99% of the others.”

Zak Brown would love for Alonso to drive for McLaren at Le Mans in the future, highlighting how he could offer refuge for the 44-year-old once he calls it quits on his career in F1.

Charles Leclerc has also expressed his interest in competing at Le Mans one day

Verstappen’s foray into touring cars saw a wave of other drivers on the grid express their desire to compete at the famous Circuit de la Sarthe.

Pierre Gasly wouldn’t mind teaming up with Verstappen again for a GT3 entry. The pair previously shared a garage at Red Bull in 2019, but the Frenchman was swiftly swapped out for Alex Albon in the usual style for the Austrian constructor.

Charles Leclerc is the latest F1 star to express his interest in the 24-hour race. At the annual FIA gala, the Monegasque told reporters, “Of course I’m interested in Le Mans, I’ve watched it several times.

“Now I have to find a way to combine F1 and Le Mans. Because when I do something, I want to do it to try to win.”
