Max Verstappen has taken the motorsport world by storm with his extracurricular racing activities at the Nurburgring in recent weeks, and one former teammate of the four-time world champion has expressed his interest in joining him.
As an avid sim-racer, Verstappen’s desire to race in categories other than F1 has been documented throughout his rise as a four-time world champion.
In May, Verstappen participated in his first GT3 test at the Nordschleife under a pseudonym.
After running countless laps of the 12.9-mile circuit on his personal simulator, the Formula 1 star wasted no time in getting to grips with the real thing as he set a new track record.
That led to him taking part in the necessary courses to obtain the permit needed to drive GT3 cars in racing conditions at the notorious Green Hell.
Despite some hiccups, Verstappen was awarded the license and entered into the following round of the NLS, which took place last weekend.
Pierre Gasly would love to race alongside Max Verstappen in GT3 cars in the future
The Dutchman showcased his raw racing ability during his GT3 NLS debut. Verstappen stretched out a lead of over one minute during his two-hour-long stint, leading commentators to highlight how “unusual” it was for a driver to be so far ahead.
Speaking ahead of the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix this weekend, Verstappen’s former Red Bull teammate and current Alpine driver, Pierre Gasly, highlighted how “cool” he thought the 28-year-old’s new venture was, before hinting at possibly joining him in it.
“I must say, I find it really cool,” Gasly told journalists, via Motorsport.com. “It’s great for Max to have the opportunity to organise these things. Ultimately, it’s great.

“It got to a point where, for him, he’s got his team, he’s got his cars, and he’s got a nice set-up to just go around and actually do this type of racing. I think it’s great for the sport.
“Ultimately, I wouldn’t mind joining him in the future on some of this racing because I think it’s just incredible. Obviously, we like cars, we like racing. I think the fact of taking someone from the sim world as well is quite a unique story. I find it’s really respectful and really cool on his part to do all these things.”
Liam Lawson is another member of the Red Bull stable who has previously tried his hand at GT3 racing and proved to be relatively successful in it.
The New Zealander participated in a single season of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters championship in 2021, winning three races on his way to losing out on the title by just three points under questionable circumstances.

Pierre Gasly admits that there’s a “long way” to go before he can consider an Alpine drive at Le Mans
Whilst Gasly noted Verstappen’s ownership of a GT3 racing outfit in Verstappen.com Racing, he too has a path towards the touring car category, if he does want to head in that direction.
Alpine currently compete in the LMDh category of the World Endurance Championship with former F1 driver Mick Schumacher filling one of the seats for them in the series.
When asked by journalists if there had been any talks regarding a possible future drive at the prestigious Le Mans 24 Heures for him, Gasly replied, “Yeah, there are talks.

“But again, it’s all about finding the right time and the right way of doing it. There are talks, but let’s say it’s still a long way until we make it something proper.”
The Frenchman is currently focused on the upcoming 2026 F1 season, which will see the introduction of a new set of regulations.
With Alpine currently at the bottom of the 2025 constructors’ standings, full focus and attention on starting next season on the right foot will be paramount to them climbing back up the Formula 1 pecking order.
