Max Verstappen could be on the cusp of getting a new F1 teammate depending on the outcome of the next couple of races for Sergio Perez.
The Mexican is under pressure to deliver after a spate of poor results has put him over 100 points behind Verstappen in the Drivers’ Championship, with him dropping to sixth and potentially threatened by both Mercedes drivers.
Performance clauses in his contract state that he must not drop below a certain points threshold before the summer break, meaning it is a possibility that he could be replaced.
Liam Lawson recently tested at Silverstone but failed to impress Red Bull engineers enough to put him in the seat right away. Red Bull is not short on options, with one of those including Daniel Ricciardo.

Ricciardo is currently racing for sister team RB in the hopes that he can be promoted back to the team he left in 2018 to pursue a career at Renault.
The Australian has yet to capture Red Bull’s attention with his results for RB, having only scored points at three races so far this season.

Speaking at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Verstappen opened up the possibility of the pair competing as teammates when asked if he plans to contest the upcoming Goodwood Revival race in September.
“We’ll give it a go, maybe together with Daniel. Could be quite good fun in one car.”

Red Bull celebrates 20 years at Goodwood
Red Bull was in attendance at Goodwood to celebrate 20 years of competing in F1, with key figures from the team driving cars from their chequred history up the famous hill.
Verstappen was joined by Perez, Ricciardo, Mark Webber, Christian Klien, David Coulthard, Adrian Newey and team principal Christian Horner on the hill.

Horner drove the RB8 which won the 2012 Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championship, while Verstappen drove his 2021 title-winning RB16B.
Ricciardo was in the RB7 from 2011, Klien in the RB1 from Red Bull’s first year of competition in 2005, Webber in the RB6 from 2010, Perez in the RB18, and Newey in the £5 million RB17 hypercar.
