Max Verstappen has come from miles behind to somehow still stand a chance of winning the 2025 Formula 1 title.
After being 104 points behind in the drivers’ championship fight, most, including himself, decided to write the campaign off.
That was the normal thing to do, but what Verstappen has produced on track since then has been anything but that.
Red Bull have developed the RB21 well, but he has single-handedly taken on two McLaren drivers in very strong machinery, and found a way to have a chance at a fifth consecutive crown with two races to go.
Red Bull don’t understand Verstappen’s form and why it can be a little up and down at times, but that has been a characteristic of their car this year.
Sergio Perez thinks Verstappen will ‘become’ the greatest F1 driver before he ends up retiring, and if he wins another title this year, it’ll go down as the greatest comeback in history.

Max Verstappen needs an even greater miracle than Red Bull managed in 2010 to win in 2025
Jenson Button thinks ‘everyone’ is cheering on Verstappen to keep things going into Abu Dhabi, and really apply some pressure on his rivals.
Unfortunately, the Qatar Grand Prix is first, and it’s a track that McLaren have been really strong at over the last two seasons.
Even if he does find a way to beat them, if Norris finishes right behind him in the sprint and Grand Prix, he’ll still hold a 16-point lead heading into Abu Dhabi.
Zak Brown on Max Verstappen
And that’s the most pressing subject here. Abu Dhabi isn’t what it used to be, and nor is the current state of the regulations. What do I mean by that, you might ask?
In 2010, when Sebastian Vettel overturned a 15-point deficit to claim his title, the track was completely different. There was no DRS, and the circuit hadn’t been modified for overtaking.
That makes the idea of someone playing a Vitaly Petrov role incredibly unlikely in this situation. It leaves Verstappen needing a bigger miracle than he has ever managed.

Is there anything Red Bull can do to make Max Verstappen’s life easier in the 2025 F1 title fight?
In 2010, it was a bit of a miracle for Vettel, and 2021 wasn’t far off being the same for them. That day, a combination of things helped them out.
The man who many forget got them back into the scrap in the first place, was Sergio Perez, who brutally held Lewis Hamilton up for half a lap.
It allowed Verstappen to close a 20-second gap and get right back into the fight. This year, teammate Yuki Tsunoda has struggled and doesn’t have the pace to get himself in that position.
He also needs him to block him a lot more than that, as well as get some of his rivals ahead of the McLaren drivers.
One thing that does play to their advantage is their recent double disqualification in Las Vegas. It should force them to be more conservative with their setups.
