Dutch journalist Erik van Haren has revealed the one question that Max Verstappen has refused to answer from him throughout the current F1 season.
The Dutchman has been showing his capabilities in a car that has been difficult to wrangle during the current campaign, emerging as the next best contender to McLaren’s dominance with Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris at the wheel.
With half a chance at securing a fifth consecutive title at the end of the season, Verstappen is now pitting Piastri and Norris against each other in order to create ‘tension’ within the Woking-based constructor’s camp, according to former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya.
It’s certainly working, with recent comments from Andrea Stella highlighting how worried McLaren are about Verstappen spoiling their first drivers’ championship since Lewis Hamilton’s feat in 2007.
Max Verstappen has refused to speculate on what he would achieve in McLaren’s 2025 F1 car
Max Verstappen’s form in sub-optimal Red Bull machinery throughout the current campaign has led many to raise questions over his competitiveness in McLaren’s constructors’ championship-winning MCL39.
Previously, Verstappen rubbished claims that he could win in a Racing Bulls F1 car after fielding a question about it ahead of the Italian Grand Prix.
Speaking on The Inside Track podcast, Dutch journalist Erik van Haren revealed that he has been posing the question to Verstappen all season, saying, “Sometimes, it would be good for us journalists to see what someone else in that car would do or what Verstappen would do in a McLaren, for example.
“I think if you asked Verstappen, I tried a few times this year and he never gives me the answer, but I think you have to be confident as a driver in your own skills.
“If you ask him about being put in a McLaren, I think he would say I’d win every race, if he is honest. But of course, he won’t say that because that will be every headline everywhere.”
Given Verstappen’s impressive plug-and-play adaptation to GT3 cars during his racing debut at the Nurburgring in September, it would be fascinating to see what he would achieve during a test session at the wheel of a car that is foreign to the Red Bull cars in which he has honed his craft.

Max Verstappen will be taking part in the Nurburgring 24 Hours next year in GT3 machinery
After securing the necessary permit to race GT3 cars at the iconic Nordschleife circuit in September, Helmut Marko confirmed Verstappen will be a member of the grid at the prestigious Nurburgring 24 Hours race next June.
The race has been one that the Dutchman has eyed throughout his professional racing career, and he is finally in a position to enter it through his own GT3 racing outfit, Verstappen.com Racing.
However, Marko made it clear that the 24 Hours of Le Mans isn’t on the cards just yet.
Following his first official race in the class, his F1 rivals voiced their jealousy over the 28-year-old’s extracurricular opportunity, with Pierre Gasly saying that he ‘wouldn’t mind’ joining Verstappen for a race in touring cars in the future.
The verdict has been welcomed by the community with open arms, with the extra attention that the category is getting from a new audience due to the exploits of a four-time F1 champion being beneficial across the board.
