Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen could match Ayrton Senna’s record for Formula 1 wins with a victory at the Canadian Grand Prix.

The Dutch World Champion has previously been compared to the Brazilian legend in the past.

Now, he has the opportunity to match him in his 171 Grand Prix on Sunday.

Senna achieved his 41 wins in nine fewer races than the 25-year-old and is currently one Drivers’ Championship ahead of Max Verstappen.

However, Senna’s F1 career tragically ended at the San Marino Grand Prix in 1994 when he was just 34 years old.

He should have had plenty of time to extend his record and is widely regarded as one of the most talented racers in F1 history.

Verstappen is well on his way to creating an incredible legacy of his own.

He’s already the youngest-ever winner of a Formula 1 race and won on his Red Bull debut in Barcelona back in 2016.

It’s hard to believe that he’s currently competing in his ninth year in F1 given his tender age.

For Verstappen to move above Senna in terms of wins shows just seriously he should be taken in the conversation about the all-time greats of the sport already.

One thing that the Red Bull driver benefits from over Senna is the length of the season in the modern era.

When Senna was at his most dominant, he was only racing 16 times throughout the year.

Now, Verstappen is preparing for a 22-race calendar and that’s without the cancellation of the race in Imola.

Few people would back any other driver other than Verstappen heading to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Red Bull have won every race this season and in the last few Grand Prix Verstappen has taken his performances up a notch.

He’s pulled out a significant gap over Sergio Perez, who is the only person in a car quick enough to challenge him.

Aston Martin are one of their closest rivals this season and Lance Stroll will want to perform well at his home race.

He’s still some way behind teammate Fernando Alonso though and the Mercedes pair of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will be up there too.

However, Verstappen remains the man to beat and it’s only a matter of time until his wins tally overtakes that of the great Ayrton Senna.
