Oliver Bearman is gearing up for his first British Grand Prix in Formula 1 this weekend. The Haas driver will be keen to have a strong outing.

The home crowd at Silverstone have four British heroes to cheer on, with Bearman, Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris and George Russell all looking to impress. Alex Albon technically makes it five, given he was born in the UK, but he races under a Thai licence.

Bearman had impressed in F1 last season, scoring points on debut for Ferrari in place of Carlos Sainz in Jeddah, before having decent races for Haas in Baku and Sao Paulo. The Brit has continued that progression in 2025, with strong performances in China, Japan and Bahrain.

But the 19-year-old has not scored points since Bahrain, as Bearman trails Esteban Ocon in the head-to-head battle. The Frenchman is ninth in the drivers’ championship, while Bearman is sitting in 18th with six points.

Bearman has learned a lot from Hamilton, including his speed and mental strength. He will be keen to use those traits at the British Grand Prix, but he will not want to remember his bizarre incident during Saturday’s practice.

Max Verstappen couldn’t believe Oliver Bearman’s crash in FP3 at the British Grand Prix

Bearman had struggled for pace on Friday, finishing 18th in FP1 and 19th in FP2. The 19-year-old hopes to improve throughout the weekend as he looks to end his six-race pointless run.

It looked as though Bearman had found that pace in FP3 as he went P6 in the session. While he was over six tenths off the pace of Charles Leclerc at the top of the times, the Haas driver can take huge encouragement from his speed ahead of qualifying.

However, it was not a smooth end to FP3 for the Brit, as part of his front wing flew off coming into Stowe corner, causing a red flag. Moments after the restart, the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto spun through Maggots and Becketts, snapping the front left suspension over a bump in the grass.

The session was ended early due to the incident, but the chaos did not end there. While entering the pits, Bearman gunned it before braking, but he locked up and spun into the barriers, taking off his front wing.

He spun directly ahead of Max Verstappen, and the Red Bull could not help but laugh at the bizarre crash over his radio that was not broadcast: “Oh my god! The Haas on the pit entrance. Haha! What?” he said.
