The future of Sergio Perez at Red Bull continues to be a huge talking point in Formula 1 after a heartbreaking home race yesterday.
Brundle was speaking on Sky Sports F1 (29/10 9:07pm) during the red flag break at the Mexican Grand Prix last night.
A huge shunt for Kevin Magnussen brought the race to a halt at the halfway stage.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t the first driver to retire in Mexico City, with home town hero Sergio Perez failing to get past the first lap.
Perez, Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen went into Turn 1 on the opening lap three abreast, but only two drivers survived the corner.
Leclerc was left with nowhere to go and made heavy contact with Perez, sending his Red Bull flying into the air.
It was another disappointing result for the 33-year-old who is seriously struggling for form at the moment.
Perez’s future at Red Bull is going to be a hot topic throughout the winter, despite having a contract until the end of 2024.

Christian Horner will know how important is it to have two drivers on top form if they’re going to retain the Constructors’ Championship.
Red Bull are well known for being ruthless in their driver line-ups and Perez will know he needs to finish the season strongly.
Brundle discusses Perez’s future at Red Bull
Commentator David Croft said “There is a question in the back of my mind, are we going to see Sergio Perez racing here again in Mexico City?
“There’s a lot of talk about his future at the moment and on days like this, does he think, you know, I’ve given it everything, I know I’ve got a contract for next year, but is it all worth it?”
Brundle replied: “Red Bull know that Mercedes and Ferrari and McLaren and co will be coming at them next year and they need two drivers on their best form.
“There’s a question of, there is a contract and Red Bull want him in the car, he wants to be in the car, Formula 1 need him in the car, just look at this place.
“Everybody wants that to work apart from a handful of racing drivers who fancy his seat.
“Can Red Bull afford to take Sergio into next year if he’s just not on form?
“On balance, if I had to put money on it right now I would say he will be in the Red Bull next year and he will be at this race next year in a Red Bull. That would be my position right now.
“My goodness, he does need some decent races in these last handful.”
Perez’s Red Bull future might be complicated after the superb drive Daniel Ricciardo produced for AlphaTauri.
The Mexican is trying to hold on to second place in the Drivers’ Championship although Red Bull aren’t going to tell Verstappen to move out of the way to make that happen.
He has three weekends left to fend off Lewis Hamilton who is only 20 points behind.
Perez only has one podium in his last six races and needs to improve that record going into the winter break.
