Sebastian Vettel has been advised against a Formula 1 return by former driver Marc Surer, unless he has good reason.

The former Arrows and Brabham driver Marc Surer has suggested that former World Champion, Sebastian Vettel, no longer has what it takes to drive in F1. This comes a month after Vettel hinted at a return saying “you can never say never”, when asked.

Vettel is a legend of the sport and raced for various teams in his 15 year career in F1; BMW Sauber, Toro Rosso, Red Bull, Ferrari and Aston Martin. Vettel won four World Championships consecutively between 2010 and 2013 all for Red Bull.

Vettel told to stay away from F1

In a recent interview with Motorsport-Total, Surer suggested that the German doesn’t have the ‘mental attitude’ required to return to F1.

He said: “His mental attitude with his environmental activities does not fit in. So he would have to have a good reason.

“The hypercars are already a step ahead of Formula 1 now, so he could probably get his act together and say, ‘Yeah, I’ve got a good excuse there’.”

We aren’t sure how likely a return is, but with the sport rapidly changing, a prolonged absence could be too much for Vettel to return from.

However, this is unlikely to deter Vettel or any team who are interested in him, as his record speaks for itself. He has the third most race wins in the sport along with third most podium finishes.

Vettel was seen at the Japanese Grand Prix recently looking longingly at the track, so a return could be on the cards.
