Lewis Hamilton has admitted that it was ‘crazy’ to see the number of people who have ‘changed their minds’ about him after his first victory for Ferrari.
Following back-to-back second-place finishes in Monaco and Canada, Hamilton secured his first win for Ferrari at the Barcelona Grand Prix.
With the help of a timely virtual safety car, Hamilton was able to do a cheap pitstop and return to the track ahead of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli.
In truth, Hamilton’s final stint was arguably strong enough to win without the VSC, as he took the chequered flag ahead of Russell and Lando Norris.
Looking ahead, the 41-year-old is now firmly in the title race, as he trails Antonelli by 41 points.

Lewis Hamilton says it’s ‘crazy’ to see how people have ‘changed their minds’
Having finally secured his first victory for Ferrari, Hamilton revealed that it was ‘crazy’ how people have ‘changed their minds’ about him in recent weeks.
As per Speedweek, Hamilton was asked about the shift in opinion among ‘certain experts and former F1 drivers’.
He replied: “It was crazy to see how the tide turned and how people changed their minds.
“I don’t pay much attention to it. For me, what has meant the most is the love from the fans and the way people experienced all of this together with me.”

Lewis Hamilton ‘not thinking’ about world title amid recent form
Amid his fine recent form and Mercedes’ ongoing reliability issues, many people are backing Hamilton to sustain a proper challenge and potentially win a record-breaking eighth F1 world title.
However, the man himself has played down the expectations, stating that he is not ‘thinking’ about winning the world championship right now.
Hamilton said that at the moment, he is ‘simply’ thinking about maximising every single race weekend.
However, the seven-time world champion did hint that he knows ‘what to do’ and admitted that there is ‘a long way to go’.
Hamilton said: “I’m not thinking about that, because I know this situation; I’ve been in this position a few times before. I know what I have to do. And there is still a long way to go. So, we aren’t thinking about the title yet.
“We’re simply trying to perform as well as possible this weekend. There are no shortcuts to success. And we are all playing our part. I am very proud of the hard work everyone is putting in. We’ll just keep going and try to maintain this high level.”
Aside from Hamilton and Antonelli, Russell is also still in the race to become world champion, despite his recent poor results.
The 28-year-old bounced back with a P2 finish in Barcelona, which was handed to him after Antonelli suffered a power unit battery related failure in the closing stages.
With just 50 points separating Antonelli, Hamilton, and Russell, the 2026 F1 world title race is heating up as the calendar approaches the European season.
