Lewis Hamilton has been demanding changes at Ferrari all season since moving from Mercedes, and things are only getting worse in Maranello.

Ferrari are still winless in 2025, sitting third in the constructors’ championship. Hamilton faces breaking an unwanted Kimi Raikkonen record as the latest driver in red not to score a podium in a calendar year.

In fact, this would be a first for the seven-time champion’s F1 career. This is certainly not how Hamilton wanted his debut season at Ferrari to play out, but it has been a deeply frustrating campaign in Maranello.

The SF-25 has been a difficult car to extract the maximum from, with ride height issues plaguing them since their double disqualification in Shanghai. Ferrari prioritised a rear suspension upgrade, introduced at Spa, to solve the problem, but even that has not worked.

Ferrari ‘ignored’ Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, who had been asking for aerodynamic upgrades. But Fred Vasseur was adamant about the rear suspension and went through with his plan – the SF-25 now does not respond to setup changes properly.

Lewis Hamilton sends another report to Ferrari as he is ‘pushing for changes’ behind the scenes

Ferrari’s stubbornness with their operation has frustrated the seven-time champion, who has been demanding changes from the team. Hamilton sent private documents to Ferrari after the summer break, detailing how they could improve the car and how they run things.

But after not seeing any changes, according to a report from Corriere della Sera, Hamilton has sent ‘another report to top brass’ at Ferrari. He is ‘pushing for changes’ behind the scenes as they face going winless for the first time since 2021.

The 40-year-old has pointed to his former team Mercedes and the improvements they have made since 2024, with George Russell claiming two victories. So far, they have been ignored, with several departments at Ferrari in ‘strained’ relationships.

Some Ferrari staff are losing faith in Vasseur, despite recently signing a new multi-year contract. The Frenchman is under pressure to listen to his drivers and improve the team’s situation – Ferrari’s links to Christian Horner are only destabilising the team further.

Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc could leave Ferrari as relationships worsen in Maranello

Ferrari have six races to salvage a strong end to 2025 before they can look ahead to the 2026 F1 regulations. After years of struggle in ground-effect cars, Hamilton hopes the new rules will see an upturn in performance, while Leclerc is desperate to score top results with the Maranello outfit.

Hamilton could retire in 2026 if he chooses not to renew his contract for another year. He may not want to continue further if Ferrari cannot produce a competitive package; given the current situation, things are not looking promising.

Leclerc is losing patience with Ferrari, which has led to reports that he is considering his options for 2027. Almost half the teams on the grid have already been linked with the Monegasque driver, including a swap with Oscar Piastri to McLaren.

Piastri has been ‘flirting’ with Ferrari as a possible option to replace Hamilton. The Maranello outfit could risk losing their two star drivers if things do not improve behind the scenes.
