Lewis Hamilton has already shown why he can’t be ruled out to win the Las Vegas Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton is just a handful of weeks away from being able to turn his back on the 2025 Formula 1 season.

And it may come as quite a relief for the Briton, who has endured one of the most difficult campaigns of his career so far in his debut for Ferrari.

Such high expectations were put on Hamilton before the start of the year, and looking back, they were always a bit of a tough ask.

He certainly hasn’t had a car capable of winning an eighth drivers’ championship yet, but he’ll be hoping that the 2026 F1 regulations are a different tale.

Hamilton might be starting to lose his ‘raw speed’, according to David Coulthard, who has watched over his entire 18-year stint in the championship.

Most F1 fans don’t think Ferrari will win a title with Hamilton, which is a shame for his dreams of doing so. The seven-time champion can be quite good when he has a point to prove.

Ferrari have been warned to be ‘very careful’ with Hamilton, with one of his ex-colleagues saying that he wants to be the ‘hero’.

It was always going to take time for his expertise and experience to pay dividends, and over the next 12 months, his feedback (if listened to) should really start to help mould his team.

Hamilton won’t be ‘whining’ about not winning, or even going without taking a podium across an entire season for the first time in his career.

But, he hasn’t missed his window of opportunity to win in 2025. The Las Vegas Grand Prix marks one last realistic opportunity that he could take.

Looking at last year’s race, where he made a mistake in Q3, which cost him pole position. He ended up charging from more than 30 seconds behind Mercedes teammate George Russell to within eight seconds at the chequered flag.

If he can replicate that sort of pace again, at a track where Ferrari can also be strong in colder conditions, then he will be in contention for a podium at the very least.

When was the last Formula 1 race that Ferrari won now?

Valtteri Bottas was wrong about Hamilton’s Ferrari move and predicted that his ex-teammate would be in for more success than he has managed.

It hasn’t all been down to him, though. A winter gamble on the concept of the SF-25 backfired, and the team haven’t been able to extract as much out of the car as they thought they would.

Now, it has been more than 12 months since they claimed their last victory, courtesy of Carlos Sainz at the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix.

It would be understandable for fans to be impatient and frustrated, and perhaps that’s why Hamilton has been cut so much slack by them. They’re aware that it isn’t his fault.
